Golf Course Manager

Pay Range: DOQ

FLSA Status: non-exempt

General Purpose

The Golf Course Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and maintenance of the golf course and clubhouse to ensure a high-quality, enjoyable experience for players and guests. This role involves managing staff, coordinating course maintenance, ensuring facilities are clean and operational, and maintaining high standards for customer service. The manager is also responsible for budgeting, financial planning, and a long-range vision to ensure function and profitability. They will work closely with the golf course superintendent and seasonal staff to maintain the course's playing conditions, while also engaging with customers, handling customer complaints, and promoting the course through marketing efforts. The Golf Course Manager will ensure that the facility complies with safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.

Works under the direction of the Township Manager.

Hours of Work

The Golf Course Manager is a FLSA non-exempt or salaried position and will work a forty (40) plushour week based on the events scheduled throughout the year. The weekly schedule will vary on start and end times based on weather, course needs, customer bookings, and other factors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee hiring, training, and performance evaluations for all staff, including Course Superintendent, mechanic, and seasonal staff.
  • Maintain responsibility for all golf course budget development, implementation, and spending oversight throughout the year.
  • Coordinate with Operations Manager to review all aspects of the pro shop, grill room, banquet room booking, and bar area including staffing, sales, merchandising, and inventory control. Manage third party catering services.
  • Develop pricing strategies, track sales performance, and adjust inventory based on demand.
  • Oversee the condition and appearance of all facilities, including the clubhouse, snack bar, and pro shop.
  • Collaborate closely with the Course Superintendent and Mechanic to ensure optimal course conditions year-round. Maintain a constantly updated schedule of equipment needs and replacement schedules to ensure proper long-term budgeting.
  • Develop and implement strategies to boost play and revenue by attracting new members, golf outings, leagues, and tournaments. Maintain the course website, social media, and all other forms of advertising.
  • Negotiate and maintain the golf cart lease and other equipment acquisition processes.
  • Maintain certification in underground storage fuel tanks and ensure sufficient staff are trained to assist.
  • File and maintain regular water usage reports and other environmental reporting as needed with Susquehanna River Basin Commission.
  • Attend the monthly regular meeting of the Township Board of Supervisors and submit regular reports.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of the golf industry, business management and budgeting principles, and golf course design and maintenance.
  • Ability to manage, motivate, and lead a diverse staff. Knowledge of human resources best practices.
  • Provide outstanding customer service and be able to effectively conduct dispute resolution.
  • Attends meetings and conferences.
  • Strong project management skills for events, tournaments, and special functions.
  • Adaptable to evolving industry trends and innovations in golf course management.
  • Excellent record keeping skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma and ten (10) years of related experience, or related college degree and five (5) years related experience in golf course management.

Necessary Skills and Abilities
  • Budgeting, financial planning, and cost control abilities.
  • Experience in setting pricing strategies and managing revenue generation.
  • Ability to analyze financial reports and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of golf course maintenance, equipment, pesticides, fertilizers, and operations.
  • Understanding of turf management, irrigation systems, and seasonal maintenance needs.
  • Ability to work with the Course Superintendent to maintain course conditions.
  • Knowledge of golf course equipment and operational maintenance.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities efficiently.
  • Attention to detail to ensure everything is running smoothly on and off the course.
  • Ability to handle the unpredictability of weather, special requests, and changing operational needs.
  • Conflict resolution and effective communication with staff and members.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with the Township Manager, Township Board of Supervisors, course members, and employees.
  • Understanding of safety protocols, environmental regulations, and legal requirements related to golf courses.
