Job Title

Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Reports To

Golf Course Superintendent

Position Summary

The Assistant Superintendent is a key leadership role responsible for supporting the Golf Course Superintendent in all aspects of course maintenance and daily operations. You will provide direct supervision to the grounds crew to ensure the club’s championship standards for playability and appearance are met daily.

Key Responsibilities
  • Daily Operations & Supervision:
    • Directly supervise a maintenance crew of 10–15 employees.
    • Schedule and assign daily tasks including mowing, course setup, and bunker maintenance.
    • Serve as acting Superintendent in the Superintendent’s absence.
  • Agronomic Programs:
    • Execute fertilization and pesticide application programs following Integrated Pest Management (IPM) guidelines.
    • Scout for turf diseases, pests, and moisture stress.
    • Maintain accurate records for chemical applications and moisture readings.
  • Irrigation & Infrastructure:
    • Operate, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on the irrigation system.
    • Monitor soil moisture levels and manage hand-watering/syringing as needed.
  • Training & Safety:
    • Train staff on the safe and efficient operation of specialized turf equipment.
    • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and environmental regulations.
Qualifications
  • Education/Experience: Minimum 2-year turfgrass degree/certificate and 3–5 years of experience in golf course maintenance or similar supervisory role.
  • Licenses: Valid New York State Pesticide Applicator License (or ability to obtain within 6 months) and a valid Driver’s License.
  • Skills: Strong leadership, communication, work ethic, and character. Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, holidays and weekends as needed.
Year Round Full-Time

Competitive, with regional Syracuse averages for this role ranging from approximately $60,000 to $75,000 annually.
