Job Title: Laborer

Department: Cold Water Canyon

Reports To: Head Golf Superintendent

Classification: Non-Exempt 



Position Summary

The Laborer position is responsible for maintaining the golf course grounds, clubhouse, and landscaping. The duties include but are not limited to: mowing greens, tees, approaches, and collars. Operating backpack blowers, string trimmers, and hedge trimmers. Hand-rakes bunkers and uses turf maintenance equipment, including tractors, loaders, trenchers, mowers, and four-wheelers. 

Essential Functions

  • Plants and maintains ornamental shrubs and trees.
  • Trims and feeds shrubs and trees; removes cuttings.
  • Maintains landscape beds around clubhouse and club grounds.
  • Rakes and blows leaves.
  • Mows greens, fairways, tees, and rough by operating walk-behind and riding turf equipment.
  • Prepares and lays sod.
  • Prepares soil plant beds and establishes plantings by seed or transplants.
  • Maintains annual and perennial flowers in aesthetic arrangements.
  • Rakes bunkers.
  • Loads and unloads materials.
  • Repairs and maintains golf course and driving range tees.
  • Cleans equipment used on the golf course and practice area.
  • Aerifies and spikes greens.
  • Digs holes and trenches to maintain or construct irrigation and drainage lines.
  • Installs pipe and backfills excavations.
  • Empty garbage cans.
  • Attends staff meetings.
  • Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant.

  • Attends staff meetings.

 

Competencies

  • Ability to operate all equipment safely after training has been completed.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Required

  • High school diploma, or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Golf Course or Landscaping experience preferred, but not required.
  • Must be willing to work outside year-round.
  • Must be able to work some holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.


Position Type / Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with working hours Monday through Friday. Some overtime, holidays, or weekends may be required.


Typical shifts run from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the summer and 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the winter.

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
