Job description

The National at Ave Maria Golf Club in Ave Maria, FL, is excited to announce the exceptional career opportunity of Assistant Golf Course Superintendent! Qualified candidates will thrive in a hospitality environment and be highly focused on providing superior playing conditions for our members and their guests.
Salary: $80,000 annually
Job Summary:
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and will work with and under the direction of that position to manage and oversee providing direction for all aspects of the maintenance of the golf courses as well as other landscaping facilities on property. These responsibilities include:
  • Assisting in carrying out golf maintenance department policies.
  • Assisting in the delegation of work assignments and job performance in the golf course maintenance department. Must have good knowledge of agronomics and the application of fertilizers and chemicals, and operation of sprayers and spreaders.

Responsibilities:
  • Necessary commitment to work varied and flexible hours including days, nights, weekends and all Holidays and scheduled Golf Club events, as may be needed.
  • Will work under supervision of Golf Course Superintendent to be accountable for Golf Maintenance Budget.
  • Assists in hiring, training, supervising, disciplining, and terminating employees within the department.
  • Monitors operation of the golf maintenance department, including scheduling, agronomic concerns, employee safety and equipment maintenance.
  • Supervise the maintenance of the golf courses.
  • Oversee completion of work assignments by staff and assists with field decisions, and decisions and engages with all levels of staff to perform actual labor when and as needed.
  • Gets out onto the golf course and performs actual labor when and as needed to demonstrate, assist, and get the job / task completed timely.
  • Enforces safe working conditions with all job assignments and is responsible for instructing staff on proper equipment use and work methods.
  • Supervises special projects and labor crews per direction of Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations.
  • Reports golf course conditions and all disciplinary problems to Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Operations as the case may be.
  • Assists in the staff scheduling and payroll processing for the department.
  • Communicates verbally or through email with co-workers in golf maintenance and other departments.
  • Coordinates issues and concerns and maintenance matters for equipment and tools to the appropriate equipment and/or facilities manager.
  • Be aware of, and enforce, company policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computer programs: JONAS, EZLINK, KRONOS, Excel, Microsoft Word and Outlook would be a plus.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Assists to administer the department through proper administrative procedure in accordance with corporate protocol and employee handbook and policies.
  • Rendering professional advice, opinions, assistance and services related to the position and for the betterment of the golf course.
  • Assist to develop written operating policies, preventative maintenance, fertilizer schedules and overall course condition schedules, and tracks who performs what tasks, and when.
  • Security and protecting the golf facilities assets including facilities and equipment.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Able to communicate politely and professionally with the guests, members, customers and fellow staff members.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Physical Demands:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, fingers, to feel, talk, and to hear.
  • This job requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching with arms and hands, and occasional climbing, carrying, balancing files or documents as any of these movements are performed, or to kneel, crouch, etc.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for sustained periods of time, and daily computer use.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

Education & Experience:
  • Enrolled in a Degree in Golf Management or Agronomy or 5 or more years related experience and/or training, or combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years progressive experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Driver's License, current & valid.
