Overview

Join our high-performing team in Phoenix, AZ as a SUE Technician II and play a crucial role in mapping and protecting the unseen systems that keep our cities moving. At the heart of our work is precision, safety, and impact—and as a SUE Tech, you’ll be the boots-on-the-ground leader driving success in the field. From high-profile transportation corridors to evolving urban developments, your work will help engineers and designers make smarter, safer decisions every day. In this role you will work closely with Senior SUE Staff, Project Manager, and engineers to help identify utility conflicts using an array of technologies, including electromagnetic line locators, ground penetrating radar, GPS, conventional survey and vacuum excavation. 


Join our Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) team, a branch of engineering that deals with mitigating risks associated with new infrastructure design and construction. We work closely with engineers and utility owners to help identify utility conflicts using an array of technologies, including electromagnetic line locators, ground penetrating radar, GPS, conventional survey and vacuum excavation. Our work requires a high level of precision and technical ability.


Responsibilities
  • Work with a team of talented individuals to help tackle a wide variety of projects.
  • Read and interpret utility records, as-built and survey drawings and highway design plans.
  • Designate existing utilities using electromagnetic and geophysical technologies.
  • Operate and drive a vacuum excavation truck and perform test holes to expose utilities.
  • Utilize appropriate maintenance of traffic.
  • Call “One-Call” tickets.
  • Coordinate survey work in relation with SUE.
  • Supervise activities of field crew.
  • Train junior crew members.
  • Represent Colliers Engineering & Design in the field and communicate/coordinate with utility companies.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 year experience in using electromagnetic and geophysical designating technologies.
  • 5+ years of experience preferred.
  • Experience with VAC Truck preferred. 
  • Must be able to quickly grasp new technologies.
  • Should have basic computer skills and be able to learn and understand new software.
  • Need to have a high level of reading comprehension and communication skills.
  • Should enjoy working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Need to be able to occasionally travel out of town and work overtime.
  • Should be able to walk long distances of several miles daily.
  • Will sometimes be lifting heavy equipment up to 80 lbs.
  • Need to have good driving skills and a clean driving record.
  • Must prioritize the safety of yourself and others.
  • May need to work nights/weekends.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program.
