Maintenance Technician / Boat Repair “Jack of All Trades”
We’re looking for a hands-on, resourceful maintenance tech who can keep our boats, facilities, and equipment in top shape. If you’re the person everyone calls when something needs fixing — mechanical, electrical, or “mystery rattle on the port side” — this job is for you.
What you’ll do
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on boats: engines, fuel systems, steering, electrical, bilge pumps, plumbing, and onboard electronics.
- Diagnose and repair fiberglass/gelcoat, hull fittings, hardware, and decking; handle bottom prep, paint, and zincs.
- Tackle general facilities work light carpentry, basic electrical, plumbing, pressure washing, dock repairs, painting, and grounds.
- Launch/retrieve, haul, block, and safely move vessels; assist with rigging, winterization, and commissioning.
- Maintain shop tools and parts inventory, track work orders, and document repairs.
- Respond to urgent issues and get things safely back in service with minimal downtime.
- Work independently, prioritize effectively, and communicate clear status updates.
What you bring
- 3+ years in marine maintenance, boatyard, marina, or similar hands-on repair environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude: small engines/diesels, 12V DC and basic AC systems, fuel and cooling troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with fiberglass/epoxy work, sealants/fasteners, corrosion prevention, and marine coatings.
- Comfortable using multimeters, torque wrenches, sanders, polishers, and common shop tools.
- Ability to read manuals/schematics and follow safety protocols.
- Problem-solver mindset: you diagnose, improvise, and finish the job right.
- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, work in confined spaces and outdoors in varying weather.
- Valid driver’s license; forklift/hoist experience a plus. ABYC/NMEA knowledge or certifications are a bonus.
Nice-to-haves
- Outboard and inboard service experience (Yamaha/Mercury/Volvo/Yanmar, etc.).
- Gelcoat color-matching and cosmetic repair.
- Trailer maintenance, wiring, and brakes.
- Basic welding or fabrication.
- Customer-facing experience (walkthroughs, estimates).
Schedule and pay
- Full-time; occasional weekends/after-hours during peak season.
- Competitive hourly pay based on experience, plus overtime opportunities.
- Benefits: PTO, paid holidays, and gear/boot allowance. Tool stipend or company tools provided.
Why you’ll like it here
- Variety every day — from troubleshooting a starter issue to fairing a hull to fixing a dock cleat.
- Autonomy and trust to own repairs end-to-end.
- Pride of craft: your work keeps boaters safe and happy on the water.
