Weekend Forensic Accountant information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend forensic accountant?

To succeed as a Weekend Forensic Accountant, you need a solid background in accounting or finance, strong analytical skills, and a relevant degree or CPA/CFE certification. Familiarity with forensic accounting software, spreadsheet tools, and data analysis systems is typically required. Attention to detail, integrity, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for investigating financial discrepancies and presenting findings. These competencies ensure accurate financial investigations, reliable reporting, and support for legal proceedings, even within limited weekend hours.

What are the typical challenges faced by weekend forensic accountants, and how can they manage workloads effectively given the part-time schedule?

Weekend Forensic Accountants often encounter the challenge of handling complex cases within limited hours, which requires exceptional time management and prioritization skills. Because investigations may involve large volumes of data and tight deadlines, clear communication with full-time team members is essential to ensure continuity and accuracy. Building strong documentation habits and staying organized can help manage overlapping cases and facilitate seamless handovers. Additionally, leveraging digital forensic tools and staying updated on industry best practices can enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the condensed work schedule.

What is the difference between Weekend Forensic Accountant vs Part-Time Forensic Accountant?

AspectWeekend Forensic AccountantPart-Time Forensic Accountant
CredentialsTypically requires forensic accounting certification and relevant experienceSame as Weekend Forensic Accountant, often with similar certifications
Work EnvironmentPrimarily on weekends, often freelance or consulting basisFlexible schedule, may work during weekdays or weekends
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by law firms, insurance companies, and consulting firmsCommon in similar sectors, often as part-time consultants

Both roles involve forensic accounting skills, but Weekend Forensic Accountants typically work exclusively on weekends, while Part-Time Forensic Accountants have flexible schedules. The core qualifications and industry usage are similar, making them comparable options for professionals seeking flexible forensic accounting roles.

How many hours a week does a Weekend Forensic Accountant work?

A Weekend Forensic Accountant typically works part-time hours during weekends, often around 10 to 20 hours per week, depending on case demands and employer needs. The schedule may include evenings and weekends, requiring flexibility and strong time management skills.

Is there a shortage of forensic accountants?

Forensic accountants are in high demand due to increasing financial fraud and litigation cases, leading to a shortage of qualified professionals in the field. This shortage creates opportunities for those with certifications like CPA or CFE and strong analytical skills, especially in environments requiring detailed financial analysis and investigative expertise.

Job description

Job Title: Senior Accountant

Who We Are

All-State Industries, Inc. is a highly diversified, custom-manufacturer of nonmetallic industrial components for OEM's around the world. We have several locations in North America, including Mexico. We collaborate with our customers from concept design through project launch by providing solutions pertaining to Die Cutting, Machined Plastics, Open Cast Urethane Molding, Thermoforming, Acoustical/Thermal Insulation Products, and Molded Masticated Rubber.

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Senior Accountant to support our accounting team. This role will assist with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and data analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong Excel skills, solid accounting fundamentals, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to financial reporting and process improvements. The Senior Accountant is a hands-on member of the corporate accounting team responsible for accurate, timely financial information across a private-equity-owned, multi-entity industrial manufacturing organization with operations in the United States and Mexico. The role combines core general-ledger ownership with manufacturing and operational analysis, internal controls, audit support, and process improvement. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in detail, investigating the business story behind the numbers, and partnering with colleagues across finance and operations.

Why Join Our Team

You will join a collaborative finance team that values accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with leadership, contribute to meaningful financial analysis, and support the continued growth of the organization. Employees are encouraged to bring ideas forward, develop professionally, and make a meaningful impact on the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own assigned portions of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, roll-forwards, and review-ready supporting schedules.
  • Maintain general-ledger integrity for assigned entities and accounts; research unusual activity, resolve reconciling items, and ensure consistent application of U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, and period-over-period variances; clearly explain material drivers and items requiring follow-up.
  • Support consolidation and intercompany accounting across multiple legal entities, including intercompany balances, eliminations, foreign-currency activity, and coordination with local accounting teams.
  • Perform manufacturing and cost-accounting analysis, including inventory, standard cost, labor and overhead absorption, burden allocation, purchase-price and usage variances, scrap, and gross-margin trends.
  • Partner with plant and functional leaders to validate financial and operational data, investigate performance issues, and translate analysis into practical next steps.
  • Support fixed assets, leases, inventory reserves, prepaid expenses, debt schedules, and other assigned balance-sheet and income-statement areas.
  • Assist with external audits, tax workpapers, lender and private-equity reporting, bank or compliance requests, and other recurring financial-information needs.
  • Execute and strengthen internal controls, maintain clear process documentation, and produce organized workpapers that can be readily reviewed and reproduced.
  • Use ERP data and advanced Excel tools to improve reconciliations, reporting, and analysis; identify opportunities to standardize, automate, and shorten manual processes.
  • Provide backup support for other accounting functions and complete special projects and ad hoc analysis as business needs evolve.
Required
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting; a closely related degree with substantial accounting coursework may be considered.
  • At least five years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful responsibility for general-ledger accounting and month-end close.
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, balance-sheet reconciliations, financial statements, and variance analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, XLOOKUP or comparable lookup functions, SUMIFS, data validation, and efficient manipulation of large data sets.
  • Experience with an ERP or integrated accounting system and the ability to trace transactions from source activity through the general ledger.
  • Demonstrated accuracy, sound judgment, follow-through, and ability to prioritize multiple deadlines with limited supervision.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the confidence to work constructively with both accounting and non-accounting colleagues.
Preferred
  • CPA or CMA certification, or active progress toward certification.
  • Accounting experience in manufacturing, distribution, or another inventory-intensive environment.
  • Experience with multi-entity consolidations, intercompany accounting, foreign operations, standard costing, or private-equity-owned organizations.
  • Experience with Epicor, Sage 100, IBM Power 90-AS/400, Power BI, or similar ERP and reporting tools.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish is helpful but not required.
What Success Looks Like
  • Assigned close responsibilities are completed accurately, on schedule, and with clear, review-ready support.
  • Reconciliations identify and resolve issues promptly rather than carrying unexplained balances forward.
  • Variance analysis explains business drivers and leads to focused questions, decisions, or corrective action.
  • Recurring reports and processes become more consistent, documented, and efficient over time.
  • Finance and operating partners view the Senior Accountant as responsive, credible, curious, and accountable.
