Job description

Summary
Responsible for performing inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm and life safety systems with limited supervision; ability to handle more complex troubleshooting, supports junior technicians, and serves as a knowledgeable field representative for customers and AHJ; works independently in the field, providing high-quality service while maintaining strong customer relationships.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Perform inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72 and local codes.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fire alarm panels, devices, and circuits.
  • Diagnose and resolve system deficiencies and document corrective actions.
  • Complete service reports, inspection forms, and deficiency documentation accurately and timely.
  • Communicate system status, repairs, and code requirements to customers.
  • Coordinate with service coordinators for scheduling and follow-up work.
  • Assist with training and mentoring Fire Alarm Technician I or Helpers.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, vehicles, and inventory.
  • Follow OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and emergency service response.

Education and/or Experience High school diploma and 3-5+ years of fire alarm service or installation experience; NICET Level II in Fire Alarm Systems preferred (or ability to obtain) or required based on state; solid understanding of fire alarm systems, components, and troubleshooting; working knowledge of NFPA 72, NFPA 70 (NEC), and local AHJ requirements; ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, plans, and specifications.
Computer Skills
Microsoft Office applications; proficiency with fire alarm panels, devices, and testing equipment; ability to use mobile service software, smartphones, and basic computer applications; familiarity with system manufacturers such as Notifier or equivalent preferred.
Physical Demands
Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces; ability to work at heights and in occupied buildings; ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; field-based role at commercial, industrial, and multi-family properties; exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and electrical environments; On-call rotation and occasional overtime may be required.
