Job description

About Standard Bots

Standard Bots builds industrial robots that are powerful, affordable, and designed to scale for manufacturing and aerospace use.

Location and Travel

This role is based out of our Glen Cove, NY robotics factory and requires up to 30% domestic travel, Monday through Friday.

The Role

The Senior Applications Engineer is a rare profile in industrial automationโ€”a blend of mechanical, electrical, and software expertise to design, install, and support robotic solutions on customer sites.

What You'll Do Solution Design & Proof of Concept
  • Work with sales and customers to understand automation goals, production constraints, and integration requirements.
  • Design practical, buildable solutions around Standard Bots' hardware and build the proof of concept yourself to validate before signing.
  • Develop application notes, sample code, and documentation to help customers and internal teams replicate and scale solutions.
Field Installation & Integration
  • Travel to customer sites to install, program, wire, and commission robotic cells.
  • Own integration from mechanical setup through software configurationโ€”fixtures, I/O, PLC handshakes, safety, testing, and signโ€‘off.
  • Troubleshoot onโ€‘site when things donโ€™t go as planned.
Customer Training & Support
  • Train customer operators and technicians on hardware and software both onโ€‘site and at our facility.
  • Support customers postโ€‘install as they discover new applications.
  • Serve as a trusted technical resource for existing accounts.
Trade Shows & Demos
  • Represent Standard Bots at industry events and trade shows, build and run the demo live.
  • Develop and maintain demo systems showcasing the breadth of our hardware.
Internal Collaboration
  • Feed realโ€‘world integration learnings back to hardware and software engineering teams.
  • Assist inโ€‘house engineering with testing new features, peripherals, and integrations.
What We're Looking For
  • A genuine trifecta: proficient in mechanical systems, electrical systems, and software.
  • 6+ years of handsโ€‘on experience with industrial automation fundamentals: PLC programming, ladder logic, pneumatics, DC power, robot programming, and Python scripting.
  • Proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks preferred but not required).
  • Customerโ€‘facing experience, able to explain integration to various stakeholders.
  • Bias for doing, not just talking.
  • Comfort with up to 30% domestic travel.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent handsโ€‘on experience.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with collaborative robots such as UR, Fanuc, KUKA, and ABB.
  • Familiarity with machine tending, palletizing, welding, or assembly automation.
  • Experience with vision systems, force/torque sensing, or custom endโ€‘ofโ€‘arm tooling.
  • Background in manufacturing or production environment.
Compensation and Benefits

Salary range $130,000 to $160,000, depending on experience. Base salary plus equity, paid time off, medical/dental/vision, life and disability insurance, and 401(k) for fullโ€‘time employees.
