Job description

Introduction
The Senate Sergeant at Arms Office is currently accepting applications for a full-time Messenger to join the Wisconsin State Legislature. The Senate Sergeant at Arms is a non-partisan office that aids the operation of the Senate. This position will provide support to the Wisconsin State Senate.
Position Summary
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Supporting the everyday functions of the Legislature by completing a variety of tasks, including Legislative errands and deliveries, carrying heavy and/or bulky items, including furniture, office support work, mailing and newsletter projects, occasional mail delivery, and answering the phone.
  2. Aid in ensuring the security of the Senate and its members. Strong facial recognition capabilities, an ability to monitor access, and work well with a wide variety of people.
  3. Use oral and written communication skills along with computer and organizational skills to aid operational practices with attention to detail.
  4. Assist Legislative meeting operations by staffing and setting up committees, caucuses, task forces, and the convened Senate.
  5. Technology setup and operation, including microphone systems, audiovisual and PowerPoint setup and operation, Zoom and Skype calls, Bluetooth speakers, etc.
  6. Act as a lead worker, set the example for others, take initiative, and train others.
  7. Backup managers, and demonstrate strong problem-solving and organizational skills.

Qualifications
In addition, the following is required:
  1. Professional attire and demeanor;
  2. A valid driver's license for occasional travel throughout the state'
  3. Occasional evening and weekend hours;
  4. Physical ability to lift and carry items safely;
  5. Completion of successful background check.

The following experiences are desired:
  1. Written and oral communication;
  2. Lead work and training experience;
  3. Professional problem solving;
  4. Technology, a/v, sound system setup and operation;
  5. Positions in customer service, employee training, and/or safety/security.
