Job description

Job Responsibilities Under general supervision, primarily provides legal advice, counsel, and representation to the State, State agencies, and officials relating to civil litigation and other non-criminal matters. Provides legal advice, counsel, and representation to the State, and as directed, to State agencies, public officials, and political subdivisions of the State (collectively the "State"). Manages caseload, and researches and prepares high-quality documents.

Represents the State, and as directed, State agencies, public officials, and political subdivisions of the State (collectively the "State"), and its interests in contested matters by appearing in all courts at all levels. Coordinates enforcement of the South Carolina Underground Facility Damage Prevention Act (the "SC811 Act") Serves as extradition hearing officer for the State of South Carolina. Serves as attorney to the State Employee Grievance Committee.

Serves as coordinator for all FOIA requests sent to the Attorney General's Office, and provides legal advice and counsel to all employees of the Office on all matters relating to FOIA. Performs other duties as assigned. This position also includes an excellent benefits package: Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility.

Minimum and Additional Requirements J.D. Degree. Must be a member of the South Carolina Bar and have satisfied the 403 requirements

Additional Requirements: Position may require overnight travel. Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends. Position requires a valid driver's license.

Position may be required to travel and transport files. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of the laws of South Carolina. Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to interpret and apply laws and judicial decisions. Additional Comments DRUG SCREENING, CREDIT CHECK, DELINQUENT TAX CHECK, AND SLED BACKGROUND CHECKS REQUIRED. THIS OFFICE IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AND AFFIRMATIVE ACTION EMPLOYER.
