Job description

Summary:
Responsible for performing general x-ray, fluoroscopy, CT exams, and all related office duties and paperwork. Technologist are expected to learn at least one specialty area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Produce radiographs in accordance with established standards and policies.
• Perform CT scans in accordance with established standards and policies.
• Communicate with and assist Radiologists, Physicians, and their staff when called upon.
• Schedule all exams performed in the department and effectively communicate the patient’s preparation instructions.
• Receive telephone orders and apply diagnosis checking according to Medicare guidelines.
• Provide appropriate radiation protection for patients, their families and for employees, and be aware of need to limit repeats.
• Demonstrates values and behaviors according to Values Statement.
• Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety and specific job-related hazards.
• Follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
• Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
• Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intra- departmentally to facilitate the department’s/unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform other duties as assigned
Professional Requirements:
• Complete annual education requirements.
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
• Report to work on time and as scheduled.
• Wear identification while on duty.
• Maintain regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.
• Represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.
• Comply with all organizational policies.
• Conduct oneself as a professional in accordance with PRIDE values.
• Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
• Attend regular staff meetings and in-services.

Job Requirements:
• Completion of accredited Radiography Program.
• ARRT Certification.
• State of Iowa Permit to Practice.
• CPR-Basic Life Support.
• One year in hospital experience preferred.
• Must have thorough knowledge of radiographic protocols, techniques, and positioning.
• Must have general knowledge of radiographic equipment including CT, fluoroscopy, C-Arm and portable equipment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy.
• Basic knowledge of pathology and other medical terminology.
• Demonstrate proper lifting techniques and patient handling.
• Knowledge and skills to inject IV contrast and the ability to care for a patient in the event of an allergic reaction to the IV contrast.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Knowledge of radiation protection and safety.
