Conflicts Clearance Attorney – New York, New YorkDirect Counsel is seeking a Conflicts Clearance Attorney to join the General Counsel's Office of a prestigious Am Law firm in its New York office.
This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with 3+ years of experience in conflicts management, legal ethics, professional responsibility, or law firm risk management. The successful candidate will play a critical role in evaluating potential conflicts of interest, supporting the firm's new business intake process, and advising attorneys and staff on ethical and compliance matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilitate and manage the firm's new business intake process.
Conduct comprehensive conflicts analyses for new clients and matters using internal and external research resources.
Evaluate potential legal and business conflicts and provide practical recommendations for resolution.
Draft and implement conflict waivers, consent letters, and ethical screens as needed.
Advise attorneys and staff regarding professional responsibility obligations and compliance with applicable Rules of Professional Conduct.
Assist with the development and implementation of conflicts and risk management policies and procedures.
Provide training and guidance on conflicts clearance, ethics, and business intake processes.
Participate in after-hours, weekend, and holiday on-call coverage for urgent conflicts matters.
Collaborate with attorneys, business professionals, and firm leadership to ensure compliance and risk management objectives are met.
Qualifications:
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
Active membership and good standing with a U.S. state bar.
3+ years of experience in conflicts management, legal ethics, professional responsibility, compliance, or a related role within a large law firm environment.
Strong knowledge of conflicts of interest rules and legal ethics principles.
Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Ability to prioritize competing demands and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment.
