• Type: Non–exempt, Temporary, Part-time
• Schedule: 25 hours per week (Monday - Friday 6 pm to 10 pm, Saturday 10 am to 5 pm)
• Location: Fully onsite in the Lower East Side
• Pay: $25 an hour

Program Overview:

The Afterschool and Camp Services Department provides safe, engaging, and enriching programs that support the academic, social-emotional, and personal development of children and youth in the Lower East Side community. Through hands-on learning, recreation, leadership development, and enrichment activities, the program creates meaningful opportunities for young people to build confidence, develop new skills, and foster positive relationships. Working in partnerships with families, schools, and community stakeholders, the program is committed to providing high-quality services that promote student success and well-being in a safe and inclusive environment.

Job Summary:

The Evening and Weekend Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Cornerstone evening and weekend programming, ensuring a safe, engaging, and high-quality experience for all participants. This position provides leadership and supervision to Activity Specialists, Receptionists, and interns while supporting the planning and implementation of academic enrichment, recreation, and social-emotional learning activities. The Site Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact during assigned program hours, ensuring compliance with Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) and Department of Health Regulations (DOH), maintaining accurate program records, supporting staff development, and fostering strong relationships with students, families, and community stakeholders. The ideal candidate is an organized and collaborative leader who is passionate about youth development and committed to creating an inclusive environment where young people can learn, grow, and thrive.

Responsibilities

Leadership Responsibilities:

• Supervise the Cornerstone evening/weekend program during assigned program hours.
• Communicate with Program Coordinator about any schedule modifications, important behavioral or environmental issues.
• Supervise Activity Specialist, Receptionist and interns.
• Assists in keeping the Cornerstone community (participants and parents) informed about program changes.
• Lead the planning and delivery of educational and recreational activities and special events.
• Conduct outreach to youth and parents, serve as liaison with the community and Henry Street.

Team Management & Development:

• Assist in hiring, training, and supervising a team of Activity Specialists.
• Support Activity Specialist in the classroom using a co-teaching model.
• Find/create opportunities for participants to expand and build upon their interests.
• Must be able to facilitate multiple activities and possess classroom management skills.
• Model appropriate communication with families, community members, staff, and children.
• Work with individual staff/participants on their daily program activities as time permits.
• Collaborating with staff at other Henry Street Settlement programs.

Program Operational Management:

• Provide Henry Street Settlement with all the required paperwork, certifications, and support documents in compliance with NYC DOH and other regulations.
• Attend mandatory training in compliance with NYC DOH regulations.
• Assist Program Coordinator in completing monthly and quarterly progress reports for the agency.
• Must attend weekly meetings with agency staff and participate in training as required.
• Assist with orders and purchases of materials and information to support and enrich program activities/initiatives.
• Distribute materials and information related to the activities.
• Review and assess individual students’ progress via surveys, observation, double entry journals, etc.

Essential Physical Job Functions:

• Candidate must be able to lift small supply bins of 10-15 pounds.
• Candidates must be able to work with participants in classrooms and other designated activity areas.
• Candidates must be able to accompany participants on field trips, which sometimes requires extended periods of standing and walking.

Requirements

• High School Diploma and enrollment in college in a related field (Education/Human Development/Sociology/etc.) required.
• Minimum of four years' experience working in the afterschool, evening, or camp program settings.
• Strong knowledge of education and social emotional development practices.
• Knowledge of age-appropriate skill development strategies for participants.
• Experience working with youth and adults from diverse backgrounds.
• Proficient in using DYCD Connect, or other related attendance tracking systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Experience interfacing with program stakeholders.
• Experience working with families to facilitate overall youth success.
• Ability and willingness to work with youth and adults from a variety of academic backgrounds and skill levels.
• Strong organizational, time management, and follow-through skills.
• Self-motivated and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
• Flexible and positive team-oriented attitude.
• Strong level of professionalism.
• Must be able to be on site punctually at the beginning of shifts.
