Job Description

Job Summary:

Designs, develops, modifies and evaluates electrical systems and equipment, electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for electrical and electronic equipment, and/or other hardware systems found in industrial plants and applications. The systems, equipment and skids are process and mechanical systems and equipment found in nuclear power plants, commercial and government nuclear fuel processing plants, chemical plants, refineries and power plants. All work may be required to be completed per the requirements of ASME NQA-1, 10CFR50 and 10CFR21 so familiarity and experience working within the rigors of those QA standards is a plus. Determines design approaches and parameters. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. May also review vendor capability to support product development. May use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments. Applies principles and techniques of electrical engineering to accomplish goals. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected determine methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. May supervise the activities of others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides analysis related to the design, development, and implementation of electrical parts, components, electrical systems and equipment used with and to support process, mechanical and electrical hardware systems and equipment.

  • Develops test strategies, devices, and systems.

  • Plan and implement research methodology and procedures to apply principles of electrical theory to engineering projects

  • Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results

  • Performs stress and performance tests on a variety of computer hardware including circuit boards, processors and wiring

  • Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks

  • Prepares and studies technical drawings, specifications of electrical systems, to ensure conformity to standards and customer requirements

  • Generates architecture for functional components and assists with product architecture

  • Delivers hardware designs through prototype, beta, and production release in compliance with product development process and quality practices

  • Supports existing products by troubleshooting and failure analysis

  • Compile data and write reports regarding existing and potential engineering studies and projects

  • Documents and demonstrates solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, and charts

  • Awareness and understanding of advanced technology and its applicability to company products

  • Develops statement of work, prepares related schedules for broad set of engineering activities within discipline or related discipline

  • Develop budgets, estimating labor, material, and construction costs

  • Daily availability to include evenings and weekends when necessary to reach goals and deadlines.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide technical leadership to lower-level Engineers including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization's policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving technically related work problems.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Proficient in ETAP software for electrical system modeling, analysis, and simulation.

  • Ability to utilize Electrical Analysis packages such as ETAP (or SKM) to perform load flow, short circuit, harmonic analysis, motor starting, AC and DC Arc Flash studies and protection/ coordination studies for low voltage systems of moderate complexity.

  • Experience with developing calculations using the Nuclear qualified version of ETAP is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of and experience with IEEE standards applicable to industrial, commercial, and nuclear electrical systems.

  • In-depth knowledge of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), NFPA 70E (Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace), NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery), UL-508A (Standard for Industrial Control Panels).

  • Familiarity with NRC General Design Criteria (10 CFR Part 50, Appendix A) and NRC Regulatory Guides or NAVSEA equivalents relevant to electrical engineering in nuclear facilities.

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-461G and EMI/RFI testing, including test planning, execution, and mitigation strategies for electromagnetic compatibility.

  • Ability to interpret and develop machine wiring diagrams, schematics, and cable schedules/drawings.

  • Experience with power distribution systems, short circuit analysis, load flow studies, and protective device coordination.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in regulated environments with a focus on compliance and safety.

  • Strong documentation and communication skills for preparing technical reports, design documentation, and regulatory submittals.

  • Familiarity with government contracts, including preparation and review of proposals, Basis of Estimates (BOEs) and cost/pricing documentation is a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred); PE license is a plus.

  • Ability to conceptualize an electrical design of high complexity for nuclear and non-nuclear projects during the bid phase of projects.

  • Ability to mentor entry level and junior level engineers.

  • Lead or serve as oversight on electrical designs and FAT testing per customer ISA 9001 or NQA-1 requirements for commercial and DOE customers.

  • Ability to assess existing manufacturing building electrical infrastructure and determine required electrical modifications to support new projects

  • Certified UL-508A Manufacturer Technical Representative (MTR) a plus
  • Working knowledge of IEEE grounding standards, IEEE color books, IEC and DOE electrical standards is preferred.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in a related field and 5-10 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree (M.S.) and a minimum of 3 years of directly related experience is admissible.

Other Essential Duties

Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100

  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen

  • Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP...)

Other Qualifications

  • Active PE License preferred.If the candidate does not have a PE License successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering Exam is a plus

  • Willingness to stamp and certify designs under responsible charge.

  • US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
