What is a weekend electrician?

A Weekend Electrician is a skilled tradesperson who performs electrical work primarily on weekends. This role typically involves installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. Weekend Electricians may work for companies that require after-hours maintenance, handle emergency repairs, or take on contract and freelance jobs for clients who need services outside regular business hours. This job is ideal for those looking to earn extra income or balance electrical work with other commitments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend electrician?

To thrive as a Weekend Electrician, you need a solid understanding of electrical systems, troubleshooting skills, and a valid electrician’s license or certification. Familiarity with tools such as multimeters, circuit testers, wiring schematics, and compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC) standards is essential. Strong time management, customer service abilities, and effective problem-solving skills set outstanding candidates apart. These skills are crucial for safely and efficiently completing repairs or installations during limited weekend hours while ensuring client satisfaction.

What are the typical work hours and environments for weekend electricians?

Weekend Electricians usually work on Saturdays and Sundays, often handling emergency repairs, installations, or maintenance tasks that cannot be done during standard business hours. The work environment can vary from residential homes to commercial properties, and assignments may include both scheduled appointments and urgent service calls. You’ll frequently work independently, but some jobs might require coordination with other tradespeople or facility managers. Flexibility and the ability to adapt to different settings and client needs are important aspects of this role. This schedule can be ideal for those seeking to supplement their income or who require flexibility during the regular workweek.

Job description

There’s a difference between a job you do well… and one that makes you happy. We believe you can and should have both.

At Current Electrical Services in De Pere, Wisconsin, we’ve built a place where experienced electricians can come in, do what they do best, and feel good about where they work.

We take pride in the work we do. Our team works hard in a fast-paced environment and takes ownership of every job site. At the same time, we believe that kind of effort should be supported with a schedule and culture that respects your life outside of work.

Our projects are local to Northeast Wisconsin, which means:

  • You’re home every night
  • No long commutes
  • Flexible work hours
  • No weekend work!

What Our Team Has to Say

We’ve asked our employees what they value most about working at Current Electrical Services, and these are just some of the things they told us:

  • You work alongside a strong team that trusts you, while still feeling comfortable asking a question when you need to.
  • There is flexibility when life happens. As an example, if your child is sick, you are encouraged to take care of what you need to, instead of feeling guilty or stressed.
  • Pay and benefits are above industry standards, and this is a company that truly cares about its people.
  • The work is consistent and dependable. You’re not worrying about layoffs for one week and working the next.

These are just some of the things our team mentioned about working at Current Electrical Services. At the end of the day, we work hard, support each other, and do our best to make sure everyone here feels like part of the team, not just a number.

A Day on the Job

Our Journeyman Electricians are self-starters who lead crews of 2–5 on commercial job sites.

You’ll:

  • Read blueprints and plan work accordingly.
  • Install conduit, lighting systems, and electrical devices.
  • Lead your crew and support their development.
  • Maintain a safe job site and uphold OSHA and company standards.

You’ll also have what you need to do your job well:

  • A company vehicle you can take home (saving you time and gas).
  • A company credit card so you can grab what you need without delays.
  • The trust to make decisions and keep projects moving and on schedule.

Qualifications:

  • Journeyman Electrician License
  • Completed apprenticeship or equivalent experience (8,000 hours)
  • A Strong Work Ethic: Reliable, accountable, and takes pride in doing the job well.
  • A Valid Driver's License

Compensation & Benefits

Our compensation and benefits are consistently described by our team as above average for the industry. Most benefits begin shortly after your start date, without long waiting periods.

We offer:

  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Paid time off
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Free mental health counseling
  • And additional benefits designed to support you both at work and at home.
