What is weekend driving?

Weekend driving jobs are positions that involve transporting passengers or goods primarily during the weekends, often on a part-time or flexible basis. These roles include driving for ride-share services, delivery companies, or transporting goods for local businesses. Weekend driving jobs are ideal for people looking to earn extra income outside of their regular weekday commitments. Drivers typically need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and sometimes their own vehicle, depending on the employer.

What skills and qualifications are needed for weekend driving?

To thrive as a Weekend Driver, you typically need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and thorough knowledge of local traffic laws and routes. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, ride-sharing or delivery apps, and basic vehicle maintenance are commonly required. Strong customer service skills, punctuality, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help drivers stand out. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and reliable transportation or delivery services, which are critical for customer satisfaction and professional success.

What are the typical work schedules and expectations for weekend driving?

Weekend driving roles often require flexibility, as shifts may start early in the morning or extend late into the evening, depending on demand. Drivers may be expected to handle higher passenger or delivery volumes during peak hours, such as Friday and Saturday nights. Communication with dispatchers or customers is key, and drivers should be prepared for variable traffic conditions. Regular vehicle checks and adherence to safety protocols are also important parts of the job. Team interaction varies, but drivers typically coordinate closely with support staff to ensure smooth operations.

Behind-the-Wheel Driving Instructor

Green Light Driving School | Aurora, IL

Looking for a part-time job that gets you out of the same four walls every day?
Green Light Driving School is looking for friendly, dependable Behind-the-Wheel Driving Instructors to join our Batavia team. You’ll work one-on-one with new drivers, helping them build the skills and confidence they need to become safe, responsible drivers.
This is a great position for someone who enjoys working with teens, likes being on the road, and wants a flexible part-time job where the work actually matters.
What You’ll Do

  • Provide one-on-one behind-the-wheel instruction to new drivers
  • Help students build confidence and develop safe, responsible driving habits
  • Teach everything from basic vehicle control to defensive driving and real-world decision-making
  • Pick up and drop off students within our local service area
  • Guide students through a variety of roads, traffic situations, and driving conditions
  • Keep simple and accurate records of each student’s driving lessons and progress
  • Help keep our training vehicles clean, safe, and ready for the next student
  • Stay in communication with our office team when questions or unexpected situations come up
  • Most importantly, help turn nervous beginners into safer, more confident drivers
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is:
  • Dependable. Our students and families plan their day around their scheduled drives, so being on time matters.
  • Patient. You’ll occasionally meet a student who treats the brake pedal like an on/off switch.
  • Calm and confident. New drivers take their cues from you.
  • Friendly and encouraging. A good instructor knows how to teach without making an already-nervous student even more nervous.
  • Communicative. If something comes up, we want instructors who are comfortable reaching out and keeping the office informed.
  • Organized. There is some basic paperwork and recordkeeping involved.
  • Comfortable driving in real-world conditions. Students need experience with more than perfectly sunny afternoons.
  • Able to follow established schedules and procedures while still using good judgment on the road.
Scheduling

This is a part-time position, with most student drives taking place after school, in the evenings, and on weekends during the school year.
During the summer, scheduling is much more flexible, with students available for drives throughout the day as well as evenings and weekends. This can provide significantly more options for instructors who would like additional hours during the summer months.
We understand that many of our instructors have other jobs, families, school, or other commitments. We’ll work with your availability when building schedules, but once drives are scheduled, we’re looking for instructors who can reliably commit to them.
Depending on your availability and student demand, there may also be opportunities for additional hours.
Instructor Licensing
Behind-the-wheel instructors must meet Illinois Secretary of State driving school instructor requirements.
Not currently licensed as a driving instructor? That’s okay.
For qualified candidates, Green Light Driving School can help guide you through the instructor licensing process. Previous teaching experience is helpful, but it is not required. What matters most is that you are patient, responsible, comfortable behind the wheel, and able to work well with teenagers.
Why Green Light?
Green Light Driving School has been helping students learn to drive throughout the Fox Valley area for years, with locations in Batavia, Aurora, and South Elgin.
We’re growing, and we’re looking for instructors who want to be part of a team that takes driver education seriously.
Learning to drive is a huge milestone. For some students, it’s exciting. For others, getting behind the wheel feels approximately as relaxing as defusing a bomb.
A great instructor can change that.
If you’re dependable, patient, comfortable behind the wheel, and think you’d enjoy helping the next generation become safer and more confident drivers, we’d love to hear from you.
