What are weekend dog walkers?

Weekend dog walkers are individuals who provide dog walking services specifically on weekends, helping pet owners ensure their dogs get exercise and attention while they are busy or away. They may work independently or through pet care agencies, and their responsibilities often include walking dogs, providing fresh water, and sometimes feeding or playing with the pets. Weekend dog walkers are especially in demand for clients who work during the week or travel on weekends. They are expected to have a genuine love for animals, understand basic pet care, and be reliable. This role can be part-time or supplemental to other work, and flexibility is key to meeting clients' varying needs.

Job description

PLEASE ONLY APPLY IF YOU LIVE WITHIN OUR SERVICE AREA AND AVAILABLE ON WEEKENDS

Shoreline Happy Paws has been providing peace of mind to pet parents since 2010. We're a small, dog-loving team of W-2 employees, not a gig app and not 1099 work. We're hiring two Weekend Dog Walkers & Pet Sitters to join our weekend routes, with room to grow into leadership and a long-term career in pet care.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Walk dogs in neighborhoods, on beaches, and on local trails
  • Lead structured walks and small-group hikes
  • Visit cats at home for feeding, litter, play, and medication
  • Send photo updates and detailed visit reports
  • Provide vacation drop-in care
  • Drive between visits across our service area
  • Expand your knowledge with continuing education on dog behavior

SCHEDULE & FLEXIBILITY

  • Weekends required (Saturday and Sunday). Optional evenings, weekdays, and overnights if you want more hours.
  • Hours flex with the season and the schedule. Some weekend days are just a few visits; busier weekends can be an all day shift. We build the weekend schedule around your availability and do our best to make it work for you.
  • Slow stretch or a gap between visits? There's optional paid work to fill it: putting up yard signs, flyering, light marketing tasks, or continued training. Your time with us stays productive and paid.
  • Year-round role. We do not hire summer or seasonal staff.
  • Consistency matters: our clients count on seeing the same friendly face each week.

PAY & BENEFITS

  • $16.94/hour during paid training
  • $17 to $22/hour standard pay, with raises through tenure and advancement into leadership
  • Tips, mileage reimbursement, PTO, holiday pay, and end-of-year bonuses
  • Paid Pet CPR certification and an education stipend (dog training, Pet CPR Instructor)
  • Costco membership, employee discounts, and a referral program
  • W-2 employment with workers' comp and liability insurance

SERVICE AREA (you must live in or very near)

Essex, Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, Westbrook, Clinton, Madison, Deep River, Chester, Haddam, Higganum, East Lyme, Niantic, Waterford, Groton, New London

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Dog lovers who are 18 or older
  • A genuine love for animals; patient and respectful
  • Reliable, communicative, and detail-oriented
  • Calm and confident around fearful, reactive, or excitable dogs
  • Comfortable outdoors in all weather
  • Able to handle large or strong dogs (90+ lbs)
  • Physically active; able to walk several miles a day
  • Reliable vehicle, valid license, clean driving record, and current auto insurance
  • Smartphone with data, and able to pass a background check

After you apply, please keep an eye on your texts and email so we don't miss you.
