Weekend Distillery information

What does a weekend distillery worker do?

A Weekend Distillery worker is responsible for assisting in the production of spirits, such as whiskey or gin, during weekend shifts at a distillery. Their duties typically include operating distillation equipment, monitoring fermentation processes, cleaning and maintaining machinery, and ensuring quality control throughout the production process. They may also help with bottling, labeling, and packaging the final products. This role often requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work independently or as part of a small team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend distillery worker?

To thrive as a Weekend Distillery Worker, you need a basic understanding of distillation processes, attention to detail, and often a high school diploma or relevant work experience. Familiarity with industrial equipment, safety protocols, and possibly certifications in food safety or hazardous materials are typically beneficial. Strong teamwork, initiative, and effective communication help you stand out in this hands-on environment. These skills ensure safe, efficient production and maintain product quality during weekend operations.

What are some common challenges faced by weekend distillery workers, and how can they be addressed?

Weekend distillery workers often face challenges such as managing multiple production tasks within a compressed timeframe and ensuring consistent product quality during less-staffed shifts. Communication is key, as weekend teams may have fewer supervisors or support staff on-site, so keeping detailed logs and sharing updates with weekday teams helps maintain smooth operations. Additionally, adhering to strict safety protocols and troubleshooting machinery independently are common responsibilities. Proactive organization and familiarity with equipment can help address these challenges effectively.

  • Assist with commissioning new equipment, draft and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and MPRs, and support the transfer of product lines into new operational spaces.
  • Identify analytical limitations, perform routine equipment/assay troubleshooting, and drive compliant process improvements using scientific principles.
  • Maintain equipment, prepare reagents, manage waste disposal, apply 6S standards to new spaces, and take immediate action to resolve unsafe working conditions.
  • Communicate operational status and deviations to supervisors, interface effectively with other departments and external customers, and track project milestones.

  • Move up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Work in packaging, distribution, warehouse, and/or laboratory environments, including areas near moving mechanical parts.
  • Work areas may occasionally be wet, humid, or abnormally hot or cold.

Who You Are:

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with chemistry, math, and general science.
