Job description

The TBLSEC (Tonganoxie Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative) is currently seeking a Sign Language Interpreter for the 2026-27 school year.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Sign Language Interpreter provides support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for interpreting for students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing and their hearing peers; provides voice to sign and sign to voice support; and serves as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing (D/HH) as well as adults who are D/HH.
JOB REQUIREMENT:
  • American Sign Language (ASL) Certified

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to use ASL, SEE Sign, CASE/PSE and/or other sign systems
    • Minimum EIPA 3.5 or BEI Basic
    • Preferred EIPA 4.0, BEI Advanced, KQAS 4, NIC, or other RID Certification
  • Ability to provide voice to sign and sign to voice interpreting
  • Voice for deaf and hard of hearing persons
  • Understand and use proper English, including vocabulary and grammar
  • Understand and be able to translate academic language to the cognitive level of the student
  • Have the ability to support student academically when necessary under the direction of the Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
  • Maintain professional conduct at all times
  • Prefer experience interpreting in school settings

REPORTS TO: Special Education Administrators and Building Principal(s)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in the work environment. Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job is required.
