Job description

Position Title: IT Systems Administrator

Reports To: IT Infrastructure Manager

Department: IT

Status: Exempt

Position Purpose:

The IT Systems Engineer is a key member of the Information Technology Infrastructure team and implements, administers and maintains all company data networks, cloud environments, servers, storage systems, and security controls. The successful candidate will have thorough experience and understanding of Layer 2 and 3 networks and related protocols, Windows server administration, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, as well as routing, switching, VPN, firewall and Wi-Fi technologies.

Essential Job Functions: The IT Systems Engineer must be able to perform all the following duties and responsibilities:

Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and document their application environments, evaluate any architectural changes needed, and develop cloud-forward architecture that meets application and business requirements.

Implement and administer data systems, virtual machines, databases, storage and backup systems and platform-as-a-service components in a Microsoft Azure cloud environment.

Design, integrate and manage enterprise wired and wireless networks and VPN systems according to industry best practices

Stand up and manage the entire lifecycle of Windows and Linux-based server VMs, including routine maintenance and patching at an OS level.

Handle escalated infrastructure issues, as well as provide expert guidance and mentoring to other IT team members in relevant areas

Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis of application issues to include network, storage, operating system, and application-level analysis

Establish, maintain, test, and validate business continuity systems, including on and off-site backups and disaster recovery replication

Research and recommend improvements to security, scalability, manageability, and performance across a wide variety of network, cloud and compute services and technologies

Work directly with vendors and service providers as necessary for systems implementation, upgrade and expansion projects.

Manage, monitor enterprise-wide security and availability of critical business systems, including the creation and use of scripting and automation using DevOps practices

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree – MIS, Computer Science or related field or the equivalent combination of education and 8 years of experience in Cisco networking and Microsoft Server Administration

Highly Recommended certifications:

Microsoft Certified Azure Associate

Cisco CCNA/CCNP highly desirable

In addition, a qualified applicant will have the following experience and knowledge:

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a network and server administrator in a Windows-centric, enterprise environment including at least 3 years of experience building and administering hybrid Azure AD environments with Azure VMs, Azure file storage, Azure SQL and recovery vaults

Strong knowledge of data center technologies and industry best practices

Demonstrated experience designing and managing virtualized data centers, preferably using VMware.

Experience with Azure Cloud administration and configuration technologies.

Strong knowledge of Cisco networking and routing products and technologies

Knowledge of enterprise backup and replication systems

Knowledge of SAN technologies, including iSCSI data networks

Experience with automation tools and scripting languages such as Ansible, Python, PowerShell, Bash, Puppet and Chef

Familiarity with SQL Server and Azure SQL technologies. T-SQL experience is a plus.

Ability to successfully balance the integration of new and emerging technologies while maintaining overall security, reliability of the environment.

Exceptional customer service orientation, communication skills and ability to interface with all levels of employees.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

Most job responsibilities are performed while seated indoors with little exposure to hazards. The position is occasionally required to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs. and maneuver in tight spaces to install and/or relocate associated wiring. Some flex hours may be required (must be able to work nights and weekends on a non-routine basis).

Interaction will occur with various departments, employees and all levels of management, including those on the Executive team, in the performance of the job duties as they relate to the IT Systems Engineer. Interaction will generally entail the exchange and gathering of information and responding to questions and requests.
