Destiny Coast - La Jolla, California

Destiny Coast, La Jolla's premier coastal dining destination, seeks a talented and passionate Bartender to join our beverage program. As part of our commitment to excellence, you'll craft thoughtfully created cocktails while providing exceptional service against the backdrop of spectacular California coastline views.

Position Overview
The Bartender will play an essential role in delivering an elevated beverage experience that complements our Mediterranean-meets-Southern California cuisine. This position requires a creative professional who can execute our innovative cocktail program while maintaining the highest standards of service and guest satisfaction.

Essential Responsibilities

Beverage Service

  • Create and serve thoughtfully crafted cocktails, maintaining consistency and quality
  • Maintain extensive knowledge of our global wine selection and local craft beer offerings
  • Prepare all beverages according to established recipes and presentation standards
  • Handle morning coffee service including specialty lattes and espresso drinks
  • Ensure proper garnishing and presentation of all beverages
  • Stay current with beverage trends and suggest menu innovations

Operations

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked bar
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with weekly ordering
  • Properly handle cash and credit transactions
  • Follow all alcohol service laws and responsible service policies
  • Maintain proper storage and rotation of products
  • Assist in developing seasonal cocktail menus
  • Document and maintain recipes for house specialty drinks
  • Clean and maintain bar equipment and glassware

Guest Service

  • Provide attentive, professional service to all guests
  • Build rapport with regular customers and Elite Members
  • Make informed recommendations based on guest preferences
  • Handle special requests and modifications professionally
  • Maintain knowledge of menu items to assist with food and beverage pairing
  • Support special events and member functions

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of craft cocktail experience in an upscale establishment
  • Valid California RBS (Responsible Beverage Service) certification required
  • Current certification in alcohol service/TIPS
  • Extensive knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails
  • Experience with POS systems and cash handling
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Food Handler's certification
  • Must be 21 years of age or older

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in specialty coffee preparation
  • Wine knowledge and certification (Level 1 Sommelier preferred)
  • Experience in high-volume coastal or resort properties
  • Knowledge of Mediterranean wines and spirits
  • Formal bartending school certification
  • Experience with craft beer systems and maintenance

Schedule and Availability

  • Must demonstrate scheduling flexibility
  • Weekend and holiday availability required
  • Available for both morning coffee service and evening shifts
  • Ability to work special events and member functions

  • Progressive disciplinary policy includes:
    1. Verbal Warning

  • Conduct that interferes with or adversely affects business operations may result in immediate disciplinary action

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Manual dexterity for handling glassware and equipment
  • Ability to reach, bend, and perform repetitive motions
  • Visual/auditory ability to respond to critical incidents
  • Physical stamina for high-volume service periods
