A database administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing and maintaining an organization's databases to ensure they are secure, reliable, and perform efficiently. They also manage user access and permissions, ensure data integrity, and work with other IT staff to meet business needs.
Core responsibilities
  • Installation and configuration: Install, configure, and update database software and servers.
  • Performance monitoring and tuning: Continuously monitor database systems for performance issues and optimize them for speed and efficiency.
  • Security and access management: Implement security measures, manage user accounts and permissions, and ensure data is protected from unauthorized access.
  • Backup and recovery: Develop and implement regular backup and recovery plans to prevent data loss in case of system failure.
  • Data integrity: Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data within the databases.
