Job description

DATA ENTRY CLERK - FIRST SHIFT: 7am - 3:30pm

JOB DESCRIPTION

Receive and sort medical samples by client or specimen type for laboratory testing. This includes opening, patient verification, data entry and accessioning (numbering). Must be able to use a computer for data entry, specimen verification and printing accessioning labels. Requires the ability to identify samples that need to be followed up for clarification.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Receive and sort medical samples by Client or specimen type for laboratory testing.

Documentation of specimen chain of custody.

Order-enter patient, physician and specimen information accurately and efficiently.

Accession (number) all medical specimens (jars, tubes, slides) test requisition and all other paper information provided.

Enter specimen gross descriptions from documents or dictation.

Must be able to identify samples that are not processed in-house, but are forwarded to a third party reference laboratory (Send Out).

Assist with Send Outs.

Must be able to identify and confirm patient identity and specimen integrity.

Good problem solving skills needed.

Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Assist and train new data entry operators.

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Must have strong organizational, time management and proofing skills

Able to operate standard office equipment which includes menu-driven computer workstations, computer printers, office mailing machines, fax machines.

Attention to detail

Knowledge of Medical Terminology

Clerical or data entry experience

Dependable, flexible and adaptable in all aspects of work.

Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED required plus minimum 2 years’ experience in business or healthcare industries.
