General Responsibility
Enforce the criminal laws throughout the State of South Carolina; conduct State Constable, Private Security, Private Investigator (PI), Concealed Weapon Permit (CWP), and Electronic Monitoring company investigations. Work collaboratively with local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement agencies; and participate in other special projects as assigned.
Specific Duties
  • Investigate complaints received by SLED on private security companies and security officers, PI companies and Private Investigators, State Constables, Electronic Monitoring companies, and CWP instructors. Inspect private security companies, PI companies, Electronic Monitoring companies, and CWP instructors to ensure compliance with state laws and regulations.
  • Conduct background investigations for the State Constable registrations, Private Security and Private Investigator business licenses, and Concealed Weapon Permit (CWP) Instructors.
  • Investigate CWP complaints; pick up revoked CWP's; and monitor classes. Conduct Electronic Monitoring company audits.
  • Serve as a liaison between the S.C. Law Enforcement Division and other local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement organizations.
  • Accept direction and feedback from the supervisor of Regulatory Services and other supervisors and follow through appropriately. Comply with SLED requirements as a Regulatory Services Special Agent.
  • Participate in special assignments as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must have Class I law enforcement certification from the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy, or the ability to pass the SCCJA Basic training course from the SCCJA.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and prepare statements/affidavits from victims, witnesses, and suspects.
  • Must possess good oral communication skills, data entry and basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to provide written and oral testimony in state and/or federal court.
  • Overnight travel, both in-state and out of state, may be required.
  • Must currently reside in one of the following counties: McCormick, Newberry, Edgefield, Aiken, Lexington, Saluda, Laurens, or Union.
