What is a weekend counselor?

A Weekend Counselor provides support and guidance to individuals in a residential or treatment setting on weekends. They help with daily activities, crisis intervention, emotional support, and enforcing program rules. Their role is crucial in maintaining a safe and structured environment while assisting clients in achieving personal growth and stability.

What are the typical responsibilities of a weekend counselor, and how does the weekend schedule impact the work?

Weekend Counselors typically supervise and support clients or residents during weekend shifts, facilitate group or recreational activities, and respond to any emergencies or conflicts that arise outside of standard weekday hours. The weekend structure often means working with a smaller team, requiring strong autonomy and proactive communication to maintain a safe, supportive environment. Counselors are also responsible for documenting incidents, partnering with other staff for shift handovers, and ensuring the continuity of care for all participants. This role is ideal for professionals seeking flexible hours and meaningful, hands-on experience in human services. What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend counselor, and why are they important?

Weekend Counselors should possess a background in counseling, psychology, or social work, frequently supported by relevant degrees or certifications such as CPR/First Aid. Familiarity with case management software and documentation systems is often required, and certain employers may prefer experience with specific therapeutic modalities. Outstanding communication, empathy, crisis intervention, and adaptability are standout soft skills for this role. These competencies are crucial to providing effective support, ensuring client safety, and facilitating constructive weekends in residential or camp environments.

Job description

Position Overview

Gotham Enterprises Ltd is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Mental Health Counselor to join our dynamic team. This full-time role offers the flexibility of remote work, allowing you to provide essential mental health services from the comfort of your home, while also participating in occasional in-office engagements within our outpatient practice in Hesperus, Colorado. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to fostering well-being and personal growth in a diverse client population.

About the Organization

At Gotham Enterprises Ltd, we pride ourselves on delivering personalized mental health care that empowers individuals to overcome challenges and lead fulfilling lives. Our established practice comprises a team of licensed therapists each committed to providing compassionate and evidence-based treatment options. We strive to create a supportive and collaborative environment where therapists can thrive and clients can receive the highest standard of care.

Work Environment

Our practice cultivates a welcoming and confidential atmosphere for both patients and therapists. As part of a remote team, you will engage with clients through teletherapy, effectively lifting barriers to access for those who may face mobility issues or geographical limitations. While your primary work will be done remotely, opportunities for in-person collaboration and consultation in our outpatient office will further enhance your professional experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and evaluations to identify clientsโ€™ mental health concerns and develop personalized treatment plans using evidence-based practices.
  • Provide individual therapy sessions tailored to the unique needs of clients, utilizing cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and other modalities.
  • Maintain ongoing collaboration with clients to establish therapeutic goals and monitor progress, adjusting treatment strategies as necessary for optimal outcomes.
  • Offer teletherapy services for clients who prefer virtual sessions, ensuring that all technological platforms are secure and HIPAA-compliant.
  • Keep precise and timely documentation that meets ethical and legal standards for treatment and billing.
  • Engage in continuous professional development by attending relevant workshops, webinars, and training sessions.
Patient Population / Client Focus

The licensed mental health counselor will work with a diverse clientele, including individuals facing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and managing life transitions. Our multidisciplinary approach allows for addressing a broad spectrum of mental health needs, ensuring a holistic and comprehensive treatment framework that prioritizes client dignity and respect.

Qualifications
  • Must hold a current and valid license as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD).
  • A masterโ€™s or doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a safe, trusting, and empathetic therapeutic relationship with diverse clients.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effective therapy delivery.
  • Exhibit excellent organizational and time-management skills to handle caseloads and administrative duties efficiently.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in providing therapy in a remote setting or familiarity with teletherapy platforms is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience with integrated treatment approaches or working collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams is viewed favorably.
  • A background in working with specific populations (e.g., children, adolescents, veterans) is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive annual salary ranging from $60,000 to $80,000, commensurate with experience and caseload management.
  • Exceptional benefits package including health insurance, flexible scheduling, and paid time off.
  • Administrative support for scheduling, billing, and insurance processing, allowing you to focus on client care.
  • Continuing education reimbursements and access to professional development opportunities to enhance your skills.
  • Strong commitment to work-life balance with flexibility in your developing schedule.
Career Growth Opportunities

We offer pathways for career advancement within our practice, supporting you in taking on leadership roles and specialty areas that can further develop your expertise. As we expand our services, there will be opportunities to create new programs and initiatives that contribute to the growth of our practice and enhance client care.

Why Join Our Team

If you are a licensed mental health therapist eager to provide individualized care while pursuing professional growth, we invite you to apply to become a part of our team at Gotham Enterprises Ltd. Here, you will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of individuals seeking support and healing.
