What are the typical responsibilities of a weekend counselor, and how does the weekend schedule impact the work?

Weekend Counselors typically supervise and support clients or residents during weekend shifts, facilitate group or recreational activities, and respond to any emergencies or conflicts that arise outside of standard weekday hours. Weekend Counselors should possess a background in counseling, psychology, or social work, frequently supported by relevant degrees or certifications such as CPR/First Aid. Familiarity with case management software and documentation systems is often required, and certain employers may prefer experience with specific therapeutic modalities. Outstanding communication, empathy, crisis intervention, and adaptability are standout soft skills for this role. These competencies are crucial to providing effective support, ensuring client safety, and facilitating constructive weekends in residential or camp environments.
