SUMMARY

The Advanced Dance Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality dance instruction to students in intermediate and advanced-level dance programs.  The position requires a highly skilled and experienced dance educator who can develop technical proficiency, artistic expression, performance readiness, and lead engaging recreation dance classes for participants of all skill levels.  We're looking for an experienced, reliable instructor who is comfortable working with children under 12 and committed to creating a fun, positive, and inclusive environment.

The instructor will plan and implement engaging lessons, choreograph performance and recitals, communicate effectively with families, and serve as a positive role model for participants for a variety of classes (Styles include Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz, and more).  Ages of students range 7-12. 

Classes are held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings after 4:00 p.m.  This is a part-time position that will require evening and weekend availability.    

$25-$30/hour DOQ

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of dance teaching experience required.
  • Strong technical knowledge and teaching experience in ballet and at least one additional discipline such as jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, modern, musical theatre, or pointe.
  • Ability to safely demonstrate dance techniques, skills, and choreography.
  • Experience teaching children, teens, and adults in a group instruction setting.
  • Strong classroom management and behavior guidance skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members.
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certification required or obtained within six (6) months of hire.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:

  • Plan, prepare, and teach high-quality, age-appropriate dance classes for intermediate and advanced-level students.
  • Develop lesson plans that promote technical proficiency, artistry, musicality, flexibility, strength, and overall performance quality.
  • Demonstrate and instruct proper dance techniques while maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Foster student growth through constructive feedback, skill assessments, and advancement recommendations.
  • Maintain a fair, consistent, and professional approach to classroom management and student discipline.
  • Choreograph routines for recitals and special events.
  • Select and assist with music, costumes, choreography concepts, and performance materials as needed.
  • Attend and participate in rehearsals, dress rehearsals, recitals, and special events as assigned.
  • Represent the organization professionally at all classes, performances, and community events.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with participants, families, staff, and community members.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and guardians regarding student progress, class expectations, performances, and program updates.
  • Collaborate effectively with supervisors, coordinators, and fellow instructors to ensure program success.
  • Take attendance, maintain accurate class records, and submit reports and program information in a timely manner.
  • Develop curriculum development, program evaluations, participant feedback collection, and recommendations for program improvements.
  • Arrive prepared and ready to teach before scheduled class times and maintain a high standard of professionalism at all times.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming dance environment, including proper care and storage of equipment and materials.
  • Inspect dance spaces and equipment before use and promptly report safety concerns or maintenance needs.
  • Follow all organizational policies, procedures, risk management practices, and safety guidelines.
  • Ensure participant safety during all classes, rehearsals, performances, and special events, and remain onsite until all participants have been properly dismissed.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, time-management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effectively manage multiple classes and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team while also demonstrating initiative and independent decision-making.
  • Resolve conflicts professionally and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned that support the overall success of the dance program and organization.
