Job description

Job Title: Construction Inspector-Mechanical
Work Location: Huntsville, AL
Salary: Based on experience and will be discussed with manager in interview
REQUIREMENT- Must be a US Citizen and must pass a federal background review and drug screen
Job Summary:
Involves monitoring construction, operations, maintenance, and/or repair activities to ensure conformance with MSFC standards, including construction and performance specifications, code requirements, and contract construction drawings.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provide inspection and surveillance of construction, operations, maintenance, and repair activities to ensure the work is in accordance with the contract.
  • Monitor submittals utilizing a submittal status log.
  • Review and comment on the accuracy of the construction contractor's requests for payment.
  • Review and acknowledge daily reports including verification of the project schedule by indicating the activities worked on that day and the activities behind schedule.
  • Maintain an Inspectors Site Inspection Report.
  • Maintain orderly working files for correspondence, minutes of meetings and conferences, payments, updated progress schedules, monthly progress reports, punch lists, field changes,
  • Monitor requests for Information (RFI), and contract documents including amendments, notices to proceed, change orders, modifications, and other locally generated documents developed during the construction period.
  • Participate in pre-final and final inspections, assist in preparations for detailed punch-lists and check that all punch list items are corrected prior to final payment.
  • Verify accurate as-built drawings on a weekly basis
  • Assist in review and comment on all O&M Manuals.

Education/Experience:
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • 5+ years of applicable experience on construction projects
  • Experience as a master or journeyman HVAC technician is a plus
  • Army Corp of Engineering (USACE), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) or other federal project construction experience is preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office-Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Knowledge of business office procedures.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand construction contract drawings.
  • Ability to inspect and confirm construction work conforms to design drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, co-workers, and other involved parties.
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented.

Physical Requirements:
  • Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
  • Ability to carry required instruments and equipment
  • Ability to safely lift and carry 40 pounds
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • The worker is subject to variable climate and environmental conditions including but not limited to extreme cold and heat.
