Job Title: Scrub Technician/ Surgical Technologist
 
Specialty: Operating Room – Advanced & Complex Surgical Services
 
Site: Minneapolis VA Health Care System (Minneapolis VA Medical Center)
 
Location: One Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417
 
Duration: 12+ Months (Options available for 26-week contract assignments)
 
Shift Schedule: 8-hour shifts, 40 hours per week: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM, 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • Rotating shifts as assigned
  • On-call coverage (evenings, weekends, holidays)
  • Call-back required: must be reachable within 15 minutes and onsite within 60 minutes when activated
How many shifts needed per month: Approximately 20 shifts per month (40 hours per week)
 
Credentialing / Onboarding time: 6 weeks to 8 weeks
 
Certifications:
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Required
BLS – Required
 
Experience needed:
Minimum 2+ years recent Scrub Technician / Surgical Technologist experience in an acute care hospital setting (Preference for candidates with high-acuity OR exposure)
 
Special Skills needed (Strongly Preferred / Required for Complex Service Coverage):
  • Total Joint procedures
  • Shoulder arthroscopy
  • Robotic-assisted surgery
  • Complex General Surgery
  • Neurosurgery cases
  • Podiatry procedures
  • Experience with advanced laparoscopic and specialty OR equipment
  • Ability to scrub independently without supervision
Responsibilities:
  • Provide surgical scrubbing services for routine and complex procedures
  • Set up and maintain sterile field
  • Perform accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts
  • Prepare implants, prosthetics, and specialty surgical devices
  • Anticipate surgeon needs during procedures
  • Ensure equipment functionality prior to case start
  • Maintain sterile technique and infection control standards
  • Participate in surgical time-out and patient safety protocols
  • Provide on-call and call-back coverage as assigned
  • Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and specimen handling
  • Attend required Quality Improvement (monthly) and Staff Meetings (biweekly)
  • Complete required QA/QI documentation
  • Comply with all VA patient safety, HIPAA, and infection control policies
