Job description

We are looking for friendly, outgoing individuals to join our team as Camping & Climbing Retail Sales Associates at our Orem store. As a member of the Al's team, you'll play a key role in creating a welcoming and positive shopping experience for every customer.

Working with the best brands in the industry, you'll have the opportunity to assist customers with high-quality gear from companies like The North Face, Big Agnes, Kelty, Therm-a-Rest, Black Diamond, Petzl, Osprey, MSR, La Sportiva, Mammut, and more. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable and eager to share their expertise and passion to help customers find the right gear for their adventures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver a positive customer experience through friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive service.
  • Build and apply product knowledge to provide accurate recommendations for camping and climbing gear.
  • Assist customers in locating merchandise and selecting the right products for their needs and skill level.
  • Answer questions and resolve customer concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensure accurate communication of pricing, promotions, and product information.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sales floor while supporting merchandising and stocking efforts.
  • Stay informed on new products, industry trends, and outdoor gear innovations.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to support store goals and overall customer satisfaction.

Qualifications
Required
  • Actively participates in outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, or rock climbing.
  • Strong interest in outdoor recreation and willingness to learn product knowledge.
  • Comfortable engaging customers and initiating conversations.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to provide accurate information on products, pricing, and promotions.
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment.
  • Committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 25+ lbs.

Helpful
  • Hands-on experience with camping gear (tents, sleeping systems, stoves, etc.).
  • Climbing knowledge (indoor or outdoor), including gear familiarity.
  • Experience with backpacking, hiking, or other outdoor activities.
  • Familiarity with premium outdoor brands and gear systems.
  • Previous experience in specialty outdoor or sporting goods retail.

    • What is the schedule for this job?
    • The schedule for this position includes day and evening shifts Monday through Saturday between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM, with open availability required on Saturdays. Shifts are available in 4-, 6-, and 8-hour blocks. This can be a full-time or part-time role, with hours ranging from 18 to 40 per week. Weekend, holiday, and evening availability is required.
