Your role at GEI.  
 
GEI's California Water resources practice is growing, and we are seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Rancho Cordova office.  Candidate would also provide support to GEI’s companywide Structural/Geo-Structural practice.  The GEI Rancho Cordova engineering practice provides services on a wide range of water resource projects including dams, spillways, pump stations, pipelines, canals, pump station, water storage, and water recharge. The position will support ongoing engineering planning, design, and construction management for these projects.   
 
Essential Responsibilities & Duties  
  • Candidates will support senior staff on a variety of engineering projects, mainly focused on water resource facilities and hydraulic structures (dams, spillways, outlet works, pump stations and piped and channeled conveyance), design of reinforced concrete and steel structures, preparing construction drawings and specifications, construction cost estimating, design implementation and report preparation.
  • Responsibilities will include structural analysis and design of hydraulic structures related to dams, levees, flood control, hydroelectric facilities, and other water resource projects.
  • Typical structures include spillways, outlet works, canals, storm drainage facilities, flood walls, and pump stations.
  • Collaborate with senior project managers and technical staff across the company
  • Evaluate and analyze collected data and prepare technical reports, letters and memoranda
  • Prepare design calculations, permit documents, and reports
  • Develop construction drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates and bid documents
  • Assist with the development of project plans, schedules and budgets
  • Assist with the preparation of proposals to provide professional services and support other GEI offices with proposals and the delivery of professional services
  • Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel
Minimum Qualifications  
  • B.S. degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with an M.S./Ph.D. degree preferred
  • 0-0-3 years of professional experience in Civil Engineering and Water Resources related fields.
  • EIT Certification strongly preferred but not required
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient with MS Office, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong theoretical background in earthquake/seismic engineering and finite element modeling with expertise in using standard structural engineering software (SAP2000 and LS DYNA/ANSYS ()
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well alone and in a team atmosphere
  • Willing to travel to site locations, as-needed, including field assignments
  • Valid driver’s license
