Position Summary
Performs field tasks including monitoring projects, filing reports, confirming manpower, equipment, subcontractor counts, lengths, and quantities completed. Assists the project manager with coordinating, planning, and scheduling functions for field construction activities. Writes RFI's and obtains and manages submittals including uploading/downloading functions applicable to construction management software.
Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Analyzes survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to assist in planning projects
Directs or participates in surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction
Interprets design drawings, electrical drawings, specifications, and codes and provides technical support during installations
Provides technical support to contractors and reviews documents submitted by contractors to ensure compliance with specifications, schedules, and company standards
Reviews subcontracts and drawings before issuance to subcontractors and filing
Assists in interpreting Interprets and resolving questions regarding designs, codes, and specifications
Assists in the preparation of field design changes and updates drawings for field use as required by field conditions and regulations
Monitors project schedules and provides input for problem resolution and schedule revisions
Provides field verification of materials; investigates and/or tests specific construction materials to determine compliance to specifications or standards
Inspects project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety standards
Monitors subcontract activities to ensure materials, equipment and workmanship comply with design plans and specifications
Inspects completed projects to ensure safety or compliance with applicable standards or regulations
Assists the scheduler as needed by gathering, preparing, and forecasting manpower, schedule, and cost data.
Ensures that procurement provides timely delivery of materials and equipment to meet the construction schedule
Maintains blueprints and field books
Prepares daily construction reports
Prepares field purchase requisitions, and procures construction material
Prepares final records for the projects.
Required Skills and Qualifications
A minimum of 1 year of construction industry engineering experience
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction or Project Management; an advanced degree is a plus (In lieu of a degree, extensive experience in the military, railroad/construction, or related field will be considered)
Knowledge of all general contract and subcontract documents, drawings, specifications, and surveying instruments
Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions
Ability to read and comprehend plans and specifications, and to comprehend and recognize safety standards and issues
Ability to inspect materials and structures and to identify defects
Thorough knowledge of current industry quality standards
Ability to collect data, establish facts, define problems, and provide solutions
Experience with procurement processes, budgets and cost control methods
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.

Works outdoors at construction sites and indoors
Likely works off-hours and weekends to match construction schedules.
Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction
