Position Summary

The Runner is responsible for maintaining an exceptional dining room experience by ensuring every guest feels welcomed, supported, and cared for from arrival to departure. This role focuses on hospitality, cleanliness, accuracy, and efficiency, while supporting both front-of-house and back-of-house teams. Runners are ambassadors of our service standards and play a key role in fostering relationships with returning guests through warm, attentive hospitality.

Essential Responsibilities

Guest Experience & Hospitality

  • Take ownership of the dining room to ensure all guests feel welcomed and comfortable.

  • Set tables with silverware and napkins and offer water to guests upon seating.

  • Follow all steps of service (Smile, Engage, Name, Thank You) in every guest interaction.

  • Build rapport with returning guests and foster relationships with regulars through thoughtful, personalized service.

  • Investigate and resolve guest concerns with the support of the team leader on shift when needed.

Service & Operations

  • During weekday service, run food orders to tables, bus items back to the BOH, and replenish water and cutlery stations.

  • Ensure accuracy and proper packaging for third-party delivery (3PD) and catering orders, including timely dispatch.

  • Support adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to 3PD and catering, ensuring consistency across the team.

  • Assist with restocking duties at the end of each shift using pre-closing and closing checklists.

  • Perform additional tasks and ad hoc projects as assigned to support daily operations.

Cleanliness & Maintenance

  • Maintain cleanliness throughout all guest and team areas, including clearing dirty cups, fallen napkins, and general upkeep.

  • Assist with hourly restroom checks to ensure bathrooms are clean, safe, and fully stocked (toilet paper, soap, trash removal, clean sinks and toilets).

  • Support daily, weekly, and monthly deep-cleaning tasks as assigned.

  • Notify the General Manager of any equipment or supply needs, such as bins, dispensers, sinks, or changing mats.

Team Support

  • Work collaboratively with FOH and BOH teams to maintain smooth service and high standards.

  • Step in to support teammates during peak periods to ensure efficient and seamless operations.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Previous customer service or hospitality experience.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a guest-first mindset.

  • Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.

  • A positive, team-oriented attitude and willingness to support others.

  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and special events.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform light physical tasks related to the role, including being able to lift up to 25 lbs.

Preferred:

  • Experience in a high-volume restaurant, cafe or fast-casual dining environment.

  • A proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate guest and team needs.

  • A positive attitude, strong sense of humor, and ability to contribute to a fun, team-oriented culture.

  • Passion for hospitality and a sweet tooth for cookies is a plus.

  • Familiarity with third-party delivery platforms and catering operations.

  • Attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership over the guest experience.
