Job description

Summary:
The Burton D. Morgan College of Aeronautics Chief Flight Instructor is responsible for the safe conduct of flight and ground training operations under CFR Part 61, 91, and 141. The Chief Flight Instructor is also responsible for required aircraft maintenance and compliance with all service directories and recurring service and inspections. The Chief Flight Instructor will coordinate ground training instruction as required to ensure students enrolled in flying training are adequately prepared for daily flight and ground operations. In coordination with the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor and the Flight Schedule Coordinator, the Chief Flight Instructor will ensure students are meeting the required flight courses, in the proper sequence, to graduate with their Bachelor of Science degree.
Job Description:
Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Chief liaison to local FAA Flight Standards District Office for CFR Part 141 certificate requirements.
  • FAA-designated Chief Pilot for Private, Instrument, Commercial, and CFI flight training programs.
  • Responsible for safe flight and ground operations of all Lynn University aircraft.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Maintenance, shares responsibility for compliance with all maintenance requirements for Lynn University aircraft.
  • Responsible for holding monthly ground safety training sessions for all Lynn University flight students, staff, and instructors.
  • Responsible for standardization of flight instructor and student training.
  • In conjunction with the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor and Flight Schedule Coordinator, oversee the schedule for daily flights, stage checks, end-of-course evaluations, and checkrides.
  • Duties as assigned

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • FAA Certified Flight Instructor Rating, including Instrument
  • Multi-Engine Instructor Rating
  • FAA Part 141 regulations

Minimum qualifications
  • 2000 hours Pilot-In-Command
  • 1000 hours dual flight instruction given, with at least 3 years as a Flight Instructor; or 1500 hours dual given
  • 3 to 5 years as a Part 141 Assistant Chief or Chief Flight Instructor, or similar experience required

Preferred qualifications
  • FAA Examining Authority
  • A 4-year degree in Aviation or related field and/or 4 to 10 years' relevant experience in a flight training facility.
  • Airline Transport Pilot rating
