About this Position

This position is responsible for performing functions in the Military & Veteran Benefit Services Unit consistent with policies of the University, Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education and Department of Veterans Affairs. Certify student VA education benefit payment eligibility, maintain expert knowledge of VA education benefits regulations and use judgment to determine student benefit eligibility. Serve as an advisor to prospective, current, and former students to explain and review VA-related benefits and issues. Be a role model in the department for exceptional customer service. Responsibilities include verification of VA student enrollment status, academic progress, tuition/fee calculations and eligibility for VA education benefits. Advise prospective, current, and former students on VA related benefits and process benefit certifications using the Veterans Administration electronic data transfer system (Enrollment Manager). Maintain documentation with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail of all functional and decision-making processes for auditing purposes. Consistently meet deadlines for submitting required VA reports. Determine whether to escalate where appropriate and collaborate with Registrar's management team on interpretation of university and State Regents' policies and regulations to students, faculty, and external agencies. Actively engage in professional development to maintain compliance with VA certification policies and procedures. Attend virtual, regional, and state VA benefit training meetings as fiscal budget allows. Excellent organization and communication skills are essential. Requires a high level of technical competency and literacy, the ability to use technology and maintain an understanding of Banner (or the current university student information system).

Required Qualifications
  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Seven years of experience in a higher education setting.  Post-secondary education may be substituted for years of required experience.

  • Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
    Must have computer experience with MS applications. Time management, excellent organizational skills and attention to details are required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for interacting with a culturally diverse population of students, staff, and university constituents. Must enjoy working with the public and be willing to be a team player. Competency in MS Word and Excel expected.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's
  • Five years of clerical experience in an administrative setting. Office/clerical experience at a college or university is preferred.
