Role and Responsibilities
  1. Mandatory pre-trip inspection.
    1. Mechanical inspection including gasoline, oil and antifreeze levels, lights, tires and all warning devices.Confirm the status of all safety equipment needed including fire extinguishers, flares, first aid kit, reflectors, and broom.
  2. Immediately report, in writing, any defects to grounds and/or Director of Operations.
  3. Complete all special bus request reports at the conclusion of each trip and turn in to the transportation office.
  4. A bus driver involved in an accident must call the police to have an accident report made out. Furthermore, all accidents shall be reported to the transportation office.
  5. A bus driver is to maintain order and control of pupils on the bus while demonstrating responsible adult leadership.
  6. No school bus shall exceed the legal posted speed, including expressways. Observation is to be maintained in all posted areas, while appropriate speed will be exercised at all times during inclement weather.
  7. School bus will drop off or pick up pupils only at authorized stops.
  8. Driver is not to leave the bus running while unattended, please do not leave the key on the bus.
  9. Shall endeavor to maintain the assigned time schedule.
  10. Transport only authorized pupils.
  11. All emergency and first aid supplies shall be removed from the bus and locked in an assigned cabinet.
  12. School bus is to be swept out and made ready for next day use.
  13. Make certain that all switches are turned off, windows locked, and doors secured.
  14. Shall perform other such tasks and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Operations.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  1. Must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid Michigan driver's license, and a safe driving record.
  2. Successfully passed the State of Michigan CDL road and written tests with P and S endorsements.
  3. Ability to pass MDOT physical examination.
