Job description

TEMPORARY LABORER - HOPE CEMETERY/PARKS
DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, RECREATION AND CEMETERY
CITY OF WORCESTER
The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for Temporary Laborers for the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cemetery. Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance, the position will maintain Hope Cemetery and City Parks by performing routine manual maintenance operations including, but not limited to; green space maintenance, event operations, facility maintenance and other work as assigned. All work is performed outdoors, in all types of weather conditions and in accordance with the City of Worcester standard Park/Cemetery maintenance practices and procedures. This is a seasonal position, with an expected end date of August 31, 2026.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
  • Perform general landscaping duties and assist with special events
  • Removal of trash and rubbish from assigned areas
  • Operate small machinery/equipment, such as, leaf blowers, weed trimmers, and lawn mowers
  • Perform manual labor with hand tools

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to interact with patrons and the general public in a proper and professional manner
  • Ability to work in accordance with City of Worcester standard Park/Cemetery maintenance practices & procedures
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to accept supervision/guidance
  • Ability to work thirty-five (35) hours per week and work holidays and weekends

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Experience working with hand tools
  • Basic landscaping and custodial skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Certified American Red Cross First-Aid & CPR/AED

SALARY: $15.50 hourly, seasonal, non-benefitted.
