Weekend Catering information

What are some common challenges faced by weekend catering staff, and how can they be managed effectively?

Weekend catering roles often involve fast-paced environments and managing multiple events or large guest counts. Challenges include tight timelines, last-minute client requests, and logistical hurdles such as transporting food and setting up at various venues. Effective communication with team members, strong organizational skills, and the ability to adapt quickly are crucial for overcoming these challenges. Collaborating closely with supervisors and other staff members helps ensure smooth service and client satisfaction.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Weekend Catering, and why are they important?

To thrive in Weekend Catering, you need strong food preparation skills, knowledge of food safety standards, and previous experience or relevant training in hospitality or catering. Familiarity with kitchen equipment, catering software, and certifications like a food handler’s permit are typically required. Excellent communication, teamwork, and adaptability are standout soft skills for handling client needs and event changes. These skills ensure efficient service, customer satisfaction, and smooth operations during busy weekend events.

What is weekend catering?

Weekend catering refers to providing food and beverage services for events, parties, or gatherings that take place on weekends. This can include weddings, corporate events, family reunions, and more. Weekend caterers are responsible for preparing, delivering, and sometimes serving meals according to the client's specifications. The role often involves working flexible hours, managing set-up and clean-up, and ensuring customer satisfaction. It is a popular choice for those seeking part-time or supplemental income.

As a Catering Coordinator at McAlister's Deli, you'll be responsible for executing catering operations with confidence and professionalism while driving guest satisfaction and business growth. You'll manage all aspects of catering-from sales and client retention to event execution and community outreach-serving as a brand ambassador both inside and outside the restaurant. In this role, you'll maintain company catering systems, develop and train team members, and work closely with your General Manager and MMC to ensure seamless service. With strong organizational skills and a polished, outgoing presence, you'll build lasting customer relationships, generate new business, and contribute to a positive team culture. Your success will be measured by your ability to meet or exceed sales goals, deliver exceptional guest experiences, and uphold McAlister's standards of quality and service.

What You'll Bring (Requirements):

  • Have a reliable form of personal transportation, a valid license and insurance, and the ability to pass a background check.
  • Strong knowledge of team leadership, developing goals and action plans for personal/professional growth.
  • Maintain a well-groomed appearance and follow uniform standards.
  • Remain calm in a fast-paced atmosphere and demonstrate a high level of organization, attention to detail, and a sense of urgency.
  • Display a positive and outwardly friendly attitude towards all guests - Live the McAlister's Touch.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to withstand the physical demands a restaurant environment holds.

We are an equal opportunity employer.
