Job Opportunity
Unit OverviewThis position is within a dynamic surgical oncology unit that provides care for both Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Medical-Surgical patients. The unit is known for its high patient volume and diverse acuity levels. All permanent staff are trained in PCU protocols.
Staffing and Scheduling
- Staffing Ratios: The goal is a 1:4 ratio, with flexibility up to 1:5.
- Weekends: Schedules vary based on unit needs.
- Scheduling: There is no set or blocked scheduling; adjustments are made based on the needs of permanent staff.
- Floating: All travelers may be required to float within their scope of practice.
- Shift Assignments: Night and day rotating shifts are scheduled based on departmental needs, with assignments reviewed every four-week period.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.

- Surgical Oncology: breast, thyroid, melanoma cancers
- Hepatobiliary cancers: liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract, neuroendocrine
- Colorectal cancers: colon, rectal
- Plastic surgeries: reconstructive breast cancer or sarcoma
- Chemotherapy administration
- Blood transfusions
- IV antibiotics
- Management of oncologic emergencies
- Cytokine release syndrome interventions
- Administration of insulin and heparin drips
- Emphasis on infection prevention and patient fall protocols

- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- ONS Chemotherapy certification
Electronic Health Records are managed through EPIC systems.
