Job description

Our Hockey Instructors are lead coaches who instruct our hockey classes for kids aged 5-14.
  • Responsible for running a practice or a hockey skills station (instructors should be comfortable with running a skills station for up to 5 skaters at a time by themselves).
  • Arrive 30 minutes early for the hockey class to hand out lender gear and stay 15 minutes after the class is over to put the gear away.
  • Instructors will have to help players get sized for hockey gear during the initial hockey class sessions.
  • Responsible for keeping our lender gear hockey room neat.
  • Take initiative and have the equipment set up before classes begin.
  • Communicate with other Niles Hockey Instructors before class on who will be leading the class for warm-up and what skill each instructor will teach for the assigned week.
  • Assist in filling out evaluation forms during the last week of classes.
  • Ensure the safety of skaters at all times and fill out necessary accident reports as needed. Turn in all reports to Hockey Director and Rink Manager.
  • Maintain good communication with parents and keep them informed of activities and child's progress.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Hockey Director.
  • Park District employees are expected to help work our 4th of July parade. Instructors need to make sure they are available to do this.
  • If the instructor is home for summer, there may be an opportunity for them to become one of our summer hockey camp counselors.

  • Must be able to demonstrate advanced hockey skills
  • Applicants must be flexible and be available to work evening and weekend shifts.
  • Applicants must have previous skating and hockey experience.
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Previous experience working with children or teaching children is a plus, but we will train.
