Job description

As a Driver with BWI, you make the difference. Certainly, in this role, you will have typical duties you would expect as a Driver-you will transport and deliver goods. However, being a Driver for BWI is much more than driving a truck. As a Driver your role is critical in meeting our customers' needs and is an essential piece in our customers' relationship with BWI.
In this role, you will:
  • Drive tractor-trailer combinations and straight trucks to transport and deliver products.
  • Frequently interact with customers.
  • Follow safety and placarding procedures.
  • Perform trip, vehicle, and equipment inspections.
  • Maintain logs of working hours and vehicle service and repair.
  • Obtain delivery receipts/signatures and collect payment when required.
  • Check load documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Correctly maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions.
  • Properly secure cargo for transport.
  • Read invoices to determine assignment details.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, and damage to vehicles or property.
  • Read and interpret maps.
  • Couple and uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air and electrical lines, and manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
  • Collect delivery instructions, verifying instructions and routes.
  • Operate onboard computers, CB radios, and telephones.
  • Load and unload trucks and help others with loading and unloading. Operating loading-related equipment. (Some manual unloading may be required.)
  • Collaborate with other BWI employees (e.g., employee training and sharing information) to ensure customer satisfaction and teamwork.
  • Call office twice daily, preferably at or about 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and at the conclusion of route.
  • Turn in travel expenses with receipts at the conclusion of each trip.
  • Complete trip rand returns reports.
  • Maintain tractor/truck cleanliness.

To apply, you must:
  • Be at least 21 years old,
  • Have a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED),
  • Have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) 'A' & 'B', with Haz-Mat and Tanker Endorsement,
  • Have at least one-year CDL driving experience,
  • Have a clean MVR with less than 3 moving violations over three-year period,
  • Be able to pass DOT physical & DOT drug screen, and
  • Have no DWI / DUI convictions within the past 5 years.
