Job description

We are looking for a Bookkeeper for a law firm!


Location: on-site in Maitland


The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for the firm on a cash basis, processing accounts payable and client cost transactions, preparing case settlement documentation, and supporting month-end and year-end close. This role requires strong attention to detail, and the ability to work confidently within the firm's accounting and case management systems.


Compensation and Benefits

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the month-end and year-end close process, including recording closed case write-offs (Law Group operates on a cash basis, not full accrual GAAP).

• Receive, verify, and enter vendor invoices into the accounting and case management systems.

• Prepare and process weekly check runs for both operating expenses and case costs.

• Process American Express credit card transactions.

• Create Closing Statements for case settlements.

• Create Cost Reports for mediations, lien negotiations, and related matters.

• Prepare correspondence for trust checks when cases are disbursed.

• Maintain client files relating to case settlements.

• Process annual 1099s and assist with preparation of the firm's tax package for the CPA.

• Download and prepare month-end reports for monthly meetings.


Qualifications and Skills

  • Five years of bookkeeping experience.
  • Previous experience in the legal industry is a plus, particularly using the FileVine case management system.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online required; experience using its incorporated AI tools preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Proficiency with AI tools is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
