About This Role

A leading automotive manufacturer is hiring a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer for its Production Engineering paint equipment-planning group in Georgetown, KY. This is a 100% on-site role and, for the current hiring wave, the team is only considering candidates who already live within daily commuting distance of Georgetown. You will evaluate and plan automation robots and expansion projects, covering process and layout design, equipment specification, cross-plant standardization, and lead-time reduction, supporting conveyor and paint-line projects for new-vehicle programs, refurbishment, and equipment life-cycle management. The role is roughly 80% office and 20% shop floor, with hands-on involvement in equipment specifications, project management, on-site inspection, and quality checks.

Location: Georgetown, KY. 100% on-site. Local candidates only for this hiring wave (no relocation).
Duration: 12-month contract (potential extension)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST; about 80% office and 20% shop floor
Travel: Up to 30%, domestic only (project-specific)
Overtime: About 15%, including weekdays, weekends, shutdowns, holidays, and odd hours

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and plan automation robots and expansion projects, covering process and layout design, equipment specification, standardization, and lead-time reduction
  • Support evaluation of equipment project proposals, including process and equipment capability assessments
  • Develop strategies and lead implementation for multi-plant equipment deployment and standardization projects
  • Support conveyor and paint-line projects, planning equipment and creating or reviewing technical and inspection documentation
  • Become an expert in multiple paint-shop technologies and systems, collaborating with cross-functional teams
  • Develop equipment standards and specifications, ensuring Control of Hazardous Energy (LOTO) compliance and cross-plant standardization
  • Create presentations and reports to communicate project status and KPIs
  • Participate in on-site inspections and perform quality checks on the manufacturing floor
Qualifications
  • Currently located within daily commuting distance of Georgetown, KY. Relocation is not being considered for this hiring wave.
  • 5 plus years of manufacturing experience; Bachelor's in Engineering (nice to have) or equivalent engineering or technical experience
  • Experience with CAD or similar modeling software
  • Equipment specification development and technical or inspection documentation
  • Experience creating structured problem-solving reports and equipment-procurement approval documents
  • Ability to identify project constraints and develop effective countermeasures
  • 2 plus years of project-management experience
  • Comfortable with about 20% shop-floor work and required PPE (hard hat, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses)
  • Willing to travel up to 30% domestically and work about 15% overtime including weekends and shutdowns
  • Preferred: equipment installation and commissioning readiness; PLC knowledge; conveyor experience; paint booths, ovens, abatement, air houses, and enclosures; automation and robot programming; vision-system evaluation; machine risk assessment; new-model introduction; equipment maintenance; bilingual English, Spanish, or Japanese
