Position Summary
The University of the Incarnate Word is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Athletics Broadcasting Graduate Assistant. The Broadcasting Graduate Assistant is responsible for duties included but not limited to all aspects of broadcasting: set up, on-air play by play/color analysis, and clean up with the goal of creating, managing, and maintaining content that strategically enhances the brand of the University of the Incarnate Word in all external communications. The Broadcasting Graduate Assistant reports to Assistant Director, Office of Communications and Brand Marketing.
This is a student position open to UIW graduate students only.
Essential Functions
  • Works with the broadcasting team throughout the year, assisting in many roles relating to broadcasting services with UIW Athletics.
  • Serves as the on-air talent (play by play/color analyst) for all football games both home and away, as well as all home games for men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, and men's and women's soccer.
  • Serves as the on-air talent for additional events, as assigned by the Assistant Director of Brand Engagement.
  • Manages all aspects of broadcast operations: including broadcast rundown, ensuring all radio spots are being played correctly, running online audio stream, working with UIW staff to make sure sponsorship assets are being executed, etc.
  • Interviews student-athletes and coaches for pregame/post-game shows and content features.
  • Provides voice overwork.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Self-starter and ability to work without supervision.
  • Familiarity with broadcast equipment and audio boards.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Able to work nights and weekends;
  • Provides a team player mentality that offers help for the greater good of the team and department;
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA

Required Education
Current UIW graduate student in Communication Arts.
Required Work Experience
One year of experience with television or radio outlet.
Preferred Qualifications
None.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Must have a valid driver's license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.
Work Hours
  • Monday - Friday, up to 25 hours.
  • Extended hours as required, including weekends, evenings and some holidays based on team schedule.

Physical Demands
Ability to lift equipment, tools, and/or materials weighing up to 25 pounds waist high.
