What is a weekend barback?

Weekend barbacks are support staff who assist bartenders in busy bars, pubs, or restaurants, primarily during weekends when customer volume is high. Their duties include restocking supplies, cleaning the bar area, refilling ice, collecting glassware, and ensuring bartenders have everything needed to serve customers efficiently. Barbacks play a vital role in maintaining the flow of service and helping the bar run smoothly, especially during peak hours on weekends.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a weekend barback?

To thrive as a Weekend Barback, you need physical stamina, basic knowledge of bar operations, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, often requiring a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, bar inventory tools, and safe handling of glassware and cleaning supplies is beneficial. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication help you support bartenders and ensure smooth service. These skills are vital for maintaining bar efficiency, guest satisfaction, and a safe, organized workspace during busy shifts.

What are some common challenges faced by weekend barbacks, and how can they be managed effectively?

Weekend barbacks often contend with high customer volume and fast-paced environments, which can make it challenging to keep the bar stocked and clean. Effective time management and strong communication with bartenders are key to staying ahead of inventory needs and maintaining smooth service. Familiarizing yourself with the layout of the bar and anticipating bartender requests can help reduce stress and improve efficiency during busy shifts. Building good rapport with the team also ensures that everyone works together seamlessly, making even the busiest weekends more manageable.

Position Overview

The Barback plays an essential supporting role behind the bar, working closely with bartenders and beverage leadership to ensure the bar remains clean, organized, stocked, and prepared throughout each shift.

This is a fast-paced, hands-on position that requires strong awareness, urgency, teamwork, and the ability to anticipate the needs of the bar team. The Barback will also assist with the preparation and plating of our small-bites food menu as needed.

  • Monitor inventory during service and communicate low-stock items to the beverage team.
  • Collect, clean, organize, and replenish glassware throughout service.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of the bar before and after service.
  • Maintain cleanliness of bar equipment, work areas, storage areas, and surrounding spaces.
  • Remove trash and recycling and maintain clean service areas throughout the shift.
  • Respond quickly to bartender and beverage team needs during high-volume periods.
  • Assist with the preparation and plating of small-bites menu items as needed, following established presentation, portioning, food safety, and quality standards.
  • Follow proper sanitation, food safety, and alcohol service procedures.
  • Maintain Terminal 4 Bar's standards for cleanliness, quality, presentation, and guest service.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, stocking, cleaning, training, and other restaurant operational duties as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with bartenders, servers, management, and other team members to create a seamless guest experience.
What We're Looking For
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to work Thursday through Sunday evenings from approximately 4:00 PM through closing, including late nights.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail.
  • Team-oriented attitude with the ability to anticipate the needs of bartenders and other team members.
  • Professional appearance and commitment to premium hospitality standards.
  • Ability to follow direction while also taking initiative when something needs attention.
  • Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods and performing the physical duties associated with stocking and maintaining a busy bar.
  • Comfortable assisting with basic food preparation and plating as needed.
  • Previous barback, restaurant, hospitality, or high-volume service experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate.
Certifications & Requirements
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Current Nevada TAM (Techniques of Alcohol Management) card or equivalent alcohol-awareness certification is required and must remain valid throughout employment.
  • Valid health card if required for assigned job duties.
  • Must meet all applicable employment, licensing, and certification requirements.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Starting Pay: $18.00 per hour.
  • Tips: Eligible to participate in Terminal 4 Bar's point-based tip pool. Actual tip earnings vary based on sales, staffing, hours worked, and eligible tips received.
  • Paid time off eligibility.
  • Health insurance eligibility for qualifying employees working more than 30 hours per week.
  • Up to $20 in complimentary food per shift.
  • 20% employee discount on purchases while off the clock.
