What Are Weekend Bar Jobs?

Bars often need a lot of extra hands, especially during the weekend. The weekend is their busiest time of the week, and they usually hire additional bartenders, wait staff, and cooks if they serve food. Bartenders take drink orders, pour, mix, and serve drinks, and keep the bar area clean. Wait staff provides service to the patrons at their assigned tables, or they may take drink orders from people standing around the bar. In this role, you make sure to keep track of which customer ordered which drink, and move quickly so that the customer does not wait long. Cooks prepare and plate food; typical bar food tends to be finger foods, such as chicken wings and dips. Some bars also hire special DJs or live bands on the weekends because of the increased size of the audience. Many of the bar staff work a few days during the week as well as the weekend, but some only work on the weekends.

What is a Weekend Bar job?

A Weekend Bar job typically refers to a position working at a bar during weekends, often as a bartender, barback, or server. Employees in these roles are responsible for preparing and serving drinks, maintaining cleanliness, handling customer orders, and providing excellent service, primarily during busy weekend hours. Weekend Bar jobs are popular for those seeking part-time work or flexible schedules, and they often require good communication skills, customer service aptitude, and sometimes previous experience in hospitality. The role can be fast-paced and energetic, especially during peak hours.

What are the typical challenges of working as a bartender during weekends, and how can I prepare for them?

Working as a bartender on weekends often means handling larger crowds, faster-paced service, and managing multiple orders simultaneously. You may encounter higher noise levels, more diverse customer requests, and increased pressure to maintain accuracy and speed. To prepare, focus on building strong multitasking skills, learning efficient drink preparation techniques, and practicing clear communication with both customers and team members. Staying organized and maintaining a positive attitude will help you thrive in this dynamic environment.

The Local is designed to be a true community gathering place where regulars are known by name, guests feel instantly comfortable, and hospitality is at the center of every interaction.
We are seeking a Bar Manager who is passionate about hospitality, quality ingredients, team culture, and creating an atmosphere that keeps people coming back. This leader will help shape a bar experience with the warmth, familiarity, and energy of a neighborhood hangout; a place where guests feel like they belong.

  • Oversee daily bar operations including service standards, beverage quality, cleanliness, and organization.
  • Partner with local breweries, farms, distilleries, and distributors to support local sourcing and community relationships.
  • Maintain a beverage program centered around fresh ingredients, thoughtful cocktails, quality spirits, and local offerings.
  • Assist with seasonal cocktail development and beverage features that complement The Local's culinary approach.
  • Ensure consistent execution of recipes, pours, presentation, and bar standards.

Team Leadership & Culture
  • Lead, coach, and develop bar staff in a collaborative, team-first environment.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling.
  • Foster a culture built on accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and hospitality.
  • Lead by example during service with urgency, positivity, and strong communication.

Operations & Service Execution
  • Manage bar inventory, ordering, product rotation, and cost controls.
  • Ensure compliance with alcohol service laws, safety standards, and sanitation procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization behind the bar.
  • Support private events, gamedays, and high-volume service periods as needed.

Community & Brand Experience
  • Help create a bar atmosphere that feels approachable and social.
  • Contribute ideas that enhance guest engagement and team culture.
  • Help establish The Local as a go-to neighborhood destination for both everyday guests and event-driven crowds.

What We're Looking For
Qualifications

  • Previous leadership experience in a bar, restaurant, or high-volume service environment
  • Passion for hospitality, craft beverages, and creating memorable guest experiences
  • Strong knowledge of cocktails, spirits, beer, wine, and beverage operations
  • Appreciation for ingredient quality, local sourcing, and thoughtful beverage programs
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience with scheduling, inventory management, ordering, and cost controls preferred
  • Must pass a criminal background check and have a valid NC driver's license and acceptable driving record

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout shifts
  • Frequent bending, lifting, reaching, and carrying up to 40 pounds
