What are weekend architecture jobs?

Weekend architecture jobs refer to positions in the architectural field that require working primarily on weekends. These roles may involve tasks such as drafting, site visits, project management, or assisting with design projects outside of traditional weekday hours. Weekend architecture jobs can be ideal for students, professionals seeking extra income, or those balancing other commitments. They are commonly found in firms handling urgent projects, events, or renovations that must be completed outside of normal business hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an architect?

To thrive as an Architect, you need a solid background in architectural design, building codes, and construction methods, typically supported by a professional degree in architecture and relevant licensure. Proficiency with CAD software, BIM tools like Revit, and project management systems is commonly required. Creativity, strong communication, and problem-solving abilities help architects collaborate effectively and deliver innovative solutions. These skills ensure that projects meet client needs, adhere to regulations, and are completed efficiently and safely.

What unique challenges might architects face when working on weekend projects, and how can they effectively manage client expectations?

Architects who take on weekend projects often encounter challenges such as compressed timelines, limited access to resources, and the need to coordinate with clients who may also be available only on weekends. To manage these challenges, clear communication and setting realistic expectations from the outset are essential. Architects should establish structured schedules, leverage digital collaboration tools, and ensure all stakeholders are aware of availability and deadlines. This approach helps maintain project momentum while balancing work-life boundaries.

Part-Time Architecture offers more flexible hours, including weekdays, suitable for those balancing other commitments. Both roles typically require architecture credentials and are used within design firms or freelance settings, but they differ mainly in scheduling and work structure.

Can you do weekend architecture part time?

Weekend architecture roles are often available on a part-time basis, allowing architects to work outside standard weekday hours. These positions may require strong time management skills and familiarity with design software, and they are suitable for professionals seeking flexible schedules or supplementary income.

Do weekend architects work on the weekend?

Weekend architects typically do not work on weekends as their standard schedule is during regular business hours. However, they may occasionally work outside of normal hours to meet project deadlines or attend site visits, depending on project needs and client requirements.

Job description

Amazon Web Services is seeking a Solutions Architect to support our US Government customers in the Northern Virginia / DC Metro area. (Relocation assistance is available.)
As a Solutions Architect on the National Security team, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor to your Intelligence Community customers. You are the "face of Amazon" to your customers, and they will consult you regarding a broad variety of technical challenges that are complex and mission-critical. You can build sample solutions, "think big," and provide architecture designs and cloud enablement strategy that suit your customer's business and technical needs. This is a high-visibility role where you collaborate with and influence external stakeholders (our government customers) and internal AWS teams like Sales and Platform Engineering.
National Security Solutions Architects are regarded as technical "thought leaders" within the Intelligence Community who evangelize emerging technologies on a conceptual level and on a practical, architectural level. Our SAs have played a critical role in the widespread adoption and advancement of cloud computing capabilities within the Intelligence Community. SAs think outside of the box to deliver results to our customers and provide solutions that are cost-effective, time-saving, and secure. As a National Security SA, you'll solve problems at both the business and technical levels. You'll work backwards from our customers' requirements and envision new mechanisms and strategies we can leverage that would enable agencies to operate more efficiently and better execute on their goals. Then, you'll figure out how to make the puzzle pieces fit together from the technical side and deliver the offering to the customer at scale. Frequently, you will be responsible for mission-critical solutions with life-saving implications.
Sometimes, the best way to innovate around a customer pain point is to create a new product altogether. This position offers you the unique opportunity to drive the AWS service roadmap to support our customers' requirements within the complex technical constraints of the cleared environment.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for technologists who align with our Leadership Principles and possess a unique balance of foundational technical knowledge and interpersonal skills. You will partner with customers, AWS Sales, and several other AWS teams to craft highly scalable, flexible, and resilient cloud architectures that address Intelligence Community customer business problems and accelerate the adoption of AWS services. In collaboration with Sales, you will drive revenue growth across a broad set of customers. As a trusted customer advocate, the solutions architect will help organizations understand best practices around advanced cloud-based solutions and how to migrate existing workloads to the cloud. You will have the opportunity to help shape and execute a strategy to build mindshare and broad use of AWS within the Intelligence Community. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, eager to learn, and ready to collaborate. The ability to connect technology with measurable business value is critical to a solutions architect. You should be able to distill customer needs into requirements and articulate technical concepts verbally and in writing.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about the following:
- Be great fun to work with at AWS. We have a credo of "Work hard. Have fun. Make history." In this role, you will love what you do and instinctively know how to make work fun. You will be dynamic, creative, and willing to take on any challenge and make a big impact.
- Enjoy working with Intelligence Community customers. You will have a passion for educating, training, designing, and building cloud solutions for a diverse and challenging set of Intelligence Community customers.
This position can have periods of up to 25% travel.
This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and currently possess and maintain an active Top Secret security clearance. The position further requires the candidate to opt into a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.
Key job responsibilities
- In partnership with the sales team, formulate and execute a sales strategy to exceed revenue objectives through the adoption of AWS
- As a key member of the business development and sales team, ensure success in building and migrating applications, software and services on the AWS platform
- Educate customers of all sizes on the value proposition of AWS, and participate in deep architectural discussions to ensure solutions are designed for successful deployment in the cloud
- Conduct one-to-few and one-to-many training sessions to transfer knowledge to customers considering or already using AWS
- Capture and share best-practice knowledge among the AWS solutions architect community
- Author or otherwise contribute to AWS customer-facing publications such as whitepapers and other reusable content
- Build deep relationships with senior technical individuals within customers to enable them to be cloud advocates
- Act as a technical liaison between customers, service engineering teams and support
