Job Summary:
The Horticulturist is responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of golf course landscapes and clubhouse gardens. Responsible for executing skilled horticultural and landscape maintenance work to ensure the aesthetic and functional quality of the golf course and surrounding areas. This role involves both routine maintenance and specialized tasks as needed to support the overall landscape management efforts of the golf course.
Reporting Structure:
  • Reports to the Equipment Manager or Superintendent

Day to Day:
  • Operate powered equipment for mowing and maintaining golf course and clubhouse landscape operations.
  • Water, fertilize, and apply pesticides to flowerbeds and shrubbery around the clubhouse.
  • Trim trees, prune shrubbery, and cultivate shrubs and flowers to enhance the aesthetic appeal and health of the landscapes.
  • Plant and maintain woody plant materials and flowerbeds in the clubhouse, golf course, and commons areas.
  • Operate and calibrate spraying equipment for accurate application of fertilizers, pesticides, and other treatments.

Additional Duties:
  • Due to the dynamic nature of the club, employees are expected to assist others as needed and take on additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Follow all company, club, and department policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and a commitment to excellence in interactions with members, colleagues, and staff.
  • Follow safe working practices, ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Take the initiative in personal and professional growth and maintain any required certifications relevant to your role.
  • Address and resolve challenges using available resources, working with regional and corporate teams to support club operations.
  • Attend daily briefings and actively engage in required activities to stay informed and contribute to the team's success.

About You:
Required
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in landscape maintenance, greenhouse management, or groundskeeping.

Physical Requirements:
  • Primarily outdoors with frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures and humidity.
  • Sitting, standing, walking, climbing/ladders, squatting/kneeling, reaching, grasping, pushing/pulling, twisting/bending, lifting/carrying up to 100 lbs., talking, hearing, and seeing.

  • Construction tools (shovels, axes, sledgehammers, etc.)
  • Gardening tools (pruners, rakes, hedge shears, trimmers, etc.)
