Position Overview:
Boston Budget Plumbing is seeking an experienced Plumbing Apprentice with two to three years of hands-on experience to join our residential service and installation team in Quincy, MA.
This role is for apprentices who have moved past the fundamentals and are ready for greater responsibility. Our goal is to support your progression towards Massachusetts journeyman licensure.
The work is physically demanding and takes place in a range of residential conditions. We are looking for technical competence, professionalism, and a serious commitment to advancing in the trade.
What You'll Do
- Perform residential installation, service, and repair work on plumbing and heating systems, including copper, PEX, and CPVC water lines, PVC and cast DWV, fixture sets, water heaters, and basic hydronic heating.
- Complete assigned portions of a job from takeoff through cleanup, with the Lead Plumber reviewing rather than directing each step.
- Diagnose common service calls independently and escalate more complex issues appropriately.
- Maintain trucks, tools, and jobsites in organized, well-stocked, and clean condition.
- Communicate clearly with homeowners regarding scope of work, findings, and recommendations.
What We're Looking For
- Two to three years of verifiable hands-on plumbing experience, preferably in residential service.
- Active Massachusetts apprentice plumber registration, or eligibility to register or transfer promptly.
- Candidates behind on classroom hours are encouraged to apply; we can assist.
- Working command of the fundamentals, including soldering and press fittings, PEX crimp and expansion, threading, DWV assembly, fixture setting, and water heater replacement.
- Practical knowledge of the Massachusetts plumbing and gas code as it applies to residential work.
- Sound judgment regarding the limits of your own experience, with the confidence to work independently and the discipline to ask when uncertain.
- Consistent reliability and punctuality.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in confined and variable conditions.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record, and willingness to complete a background check.
Preferred: Experience with boilers and hydronic heating, drain cleaning and camera inspection, accrued gas fitting hours, or a Massachusetts gas fitter license in progress.
What We Offer
- Continued training and mentorship; committed to your progression toward journeyman licensure.
- A clear career path with defined advancement as your hours and skills accumulate.
- Competitive pay reflecting your existing experience, with increases tied to demonstrated skill and progress toward licensure.
- Tuition reimbursement and professional development assistance for required trade schooling and continuing education.
- A supportive, team-focused work environment.
